Meet Mace, a sweet, cuddly, loving little guy.

He had been surrendered to the shelter by the family who'd owned him his whole life (6 years) because the kids had "outgrown him" and were no longer taking care of him.

Doesn't that seem a rotten thing to do? He was so nervous and frightened in the shelter that he barked and bared teeth to try to warn off anyone he thought might do him harm, which made it impossible for the shelter to adopt him out. So rescue was his only option.

Once in foster care, he settled down completely, but it did take him a couple of days to really get over his anxiety.

Even during those initial days, when he was agitated and barky, he never tried to bite or hurt anyone, and he was also outgoing and friendly with the other dogs in the home.

He does like to play rather physically with some (not all) of the other dogs, particularly males.

He is always ready to abandon whatever else he was doing when he thinks there is the prospect of treats or food.

He is always alert and inquisitive, wanting to investigate any strange sounds or activity.

Mace is just an itty bitty guy, currently weighing about 9 lbs.

He is quite skinny and is happily participating in trying to put on another pound or so. That should not be hard, as he has a voracious appetite.

Mace's house manners have been excellent. He goes outside to potty and has learned to use the doggie door. He doesn't chew on anything or get into anything that he shouldn't.

He is obviously VERY used to being picked up and carried around.

He likes the view from up here.

And likes how easy it is to get pats and snuggles up in your arms.

Isn't he adorable?

He previously lived with children and is said to have done very well with them.

On a visit to PetSmart, he sniffed the cats in their cages but wasn't particularly interested in them. He was, however, EXTREMELY interested in the mice, hamsters, and guinea pigs!

He is for sure a lap puppy!

Very loving and personable.

He loves toys, especially balls and soft crinkly toys.
