Meet Dodge... a very sweet, family-friendly dog.

Dodge is 2-3 years old. He has a great build, weighing 12 lbs., and measuring 13" tall at the withers, and 13" long.

Dodge is a people dog, wanting to be near you, on you, or in your arms. When he first meets new folks, this irresistable boy will usually go right up to them and try to get in their laps and get pats.

Dodge was found as a stray in Louisiana and was discovered to have heartworms. But he was successfully treated and is now heartworm free and on regular monthly preventative.

He is a real lap puppy... really soaks up the attention! He also can be nervous around very young children, so introductions must be very slow and gentle. He does fine with cats--is a little nervous and cautious around them. He is normally fairly quiet, both inside and outside. But he will occasionally bark at a neighbor or join in when other dogs are barking.

"Hey! Whatcha working on? Isn't it time for a break yet?" He did not know basic commands when he first got here. But he is eager to please and smart, and in just a few sessions he learned "sit." Now he also knows "stay" and "come" (Though he is not terrific on "come" if you don't have a treat.)

He gets along with other dogs once he gets to know them. With some dogs (particularly larger ones) he may start off with growling if he is anxious, but he generally does great with dogs his size, and was gentle and playful with some puppies he recently met.

He is very alert and likes to be aware of what is going on around him. Dodge is 80% housetrained. He quickly learned to use the doggie door, but he doesn't know how to "ask" to go out, so if his new home doesn't have a doggie door, he will need to be kept on a strict schedule.

When he first came here, he would bark with a loud, shrill bark to get your attention, or sometimes paw at your arm or your thigh. We have been working to break him of those habits, and he seldom does it anymore.
