This is Calypso! He is 4 years old.
He is social, sweet, and very attentive. Just look at him or call him, and he will come right to you, alert and waiting to see what you want.
We know that he had been in the shelter for 3 weeks when we pulled him, but he clearly had been neglected for quite some time before that.
Besides being extremely thin, he had lost almost all the fur on his neck, chest, and belly, and his feet had sores and bare patches.
And sometime in his past, he got his tail severely broken. It never straightens out, but it doesn't seem to bother him at all.
Calypso quickly showed himself to be gentle, sweet tempered, and very affectionate, both to people and to other dogs. He has no trouble with strangers or being handled.
He plays nicely with the other dogs, freely sharing toys, space, and even his food bowl.
He really enjoys playing with chew toys and squeaky toys. He will chase a thrown ball but then doesn't seem to know what to do with it.
Calypso currently weighs about 18-1/2 lbs.
He likes to take his toys outside and play with them in a nice patch of warm sunshine.
Even when he is in the middle of something else, when he notices you looking at him he will pay close attention, ready to come racing to you if you give him the word.
He is trustworthy in the house, not getting into things he shouldn't or messing with things that aren't for the dogs. He sleeps quietly and peacefully in a crate at night, going into it on his own, and rides quietly in a crate in the car.
Calypso is house trained and has learned to use a doggie door.
He is a pro at the sit command.
He does enjoy going for walks on leash and gets eager when he sees the leash come out.
He REALLY likes to be in your lap and get pats and attention, but he doesn't get pushy if another dog gets there first.
Yes? Were you looking at me? Do you want me? Do you need me? How can I help you?
Not surprisingly, Cal LOVES food and treats, and will always be nearby when you are eating. He does try to see what is on the table but hasn't actually tried to snatch anything.
Calypso and his foster brother Bolero pal around together a lot and often enjoy play wrestling.
He is ready to follow wherever his human goes, but he isn't clingy or always under foot. If you are busy, he entertains himself, but if it's Dog Time, he is all in!
This ultra sweet follow deserves an ultra terrific adoptive home!
