Boone is a confident, easy-going 24-lb. purebred Rat Terrier.
Enlarge photo 22
He is now 5 years old.
Enlarge photo 33
Boone is curious about new things and not timid, so he quickly got comfortable in  his new foster home and settled in.
Enlarge photo 44
He accepted the new home, new people, and new routine very easily.
Enlarge photo 55
And he was an immediate fan of the toy box!
Enlarge photo 66
Boone is generally quiet in the house, NOT barking when the doorbell rings or when he sees people pass by on the street.
Enlarge photo 77
When the household energy is low, he is mellow.
Enlarge photo 88
And he is ALWAYS ready for a walk.
Enlarge photo 99
Boone is reliably house trained and he is proficient with a doggie door. He LOVES hanging out on the deck or in the yard, either just sitting calmly surveying the territory...

...or patrolling the fence line for squirrels, deer, or other critters. Boone has a VERY high prey drive and he can jump a normal height fence so we had to extend our fence height to 6 feet. Click the "Download MPEG4" link for a video.

He has a great prance to his step, making him look so regal! Fora some reason clicking the image plays the video at high speed, but if you click the "download" link, it will play at normal speed.

Just a couple of days after he was rescued, Boone went to the Rat Terrier Jamboree, where he met several dozen other dogs and several dozen humans. He got along very well with everyone except for two other unneutered males. He has also been very tense with male dogs he has met on walks.
Enlarge photo 1313
But he LOVES all female dogs he has ever met.
Enlarge MPEG4 1414
He loves gently playing bitey-face. (If you click the "Download MPEG4" link the video will be rotated and play right side up.)
Enlarge MPEG4 1515
And kooky upside-down bitey face. (Clicking the Download MPEG4 link will rotate the video to play it right-side up.)
Enlarge MPEG4 1616
He never gets tired of playing chase with his doggie friends. (Clicking the Download MPEG4 link will rotate the video and play it right-side up.)

And just hanging out together is nice, too.

Boone loves to go for rides in the car because he does not like being left behind. He must ride in his crate for safely, but that doesn't stop him from jumping into the car at any opportunity and insisting on staying there just in case you were thinking of going somewhere.

Boone loves to accompany you wherever you want to go, whether it's a restaurant patio...
Enlarge photo 2020
...or a sculpture garden...
Enlarge photo 2121
...or a hike to the lake...
Enlarge photo 2222
Or even a concert!

Click for a video showing how calm he was despite the people, noise, cheering, lights, beach balls, and food smells.

And eventually he decided it was time for a nap. Click for a video of Boone being totally chill despite the pandemonium.

Boone is a pretty good napper no matter where he is.
Enlarge photo 2626
His favorite sleeping position.
Enlarge photo 2727
If allowed to sleep on the bed with you, he appreciates some nice cuddles. Usually, though, he'll snuggle for a short while then get down to finish the night in his crate or on a dog bed.
Enlarge photo 2828
Boone's normally calm demeanor even applies when the doorbell rings or people come into the house or yard. He is very interested in the newcomers and wants to greet them and befriend them.
Enlarge photo 2929
He had fun playing with the children who came over for a visit.
Enlarge photo 3030
He adores anyone who will give him time and attention.
Enlarge photo 3131
Although he had just met this new friend, he wasn't worried about being picked up for a photo.
Enlarge photo 3232
Or lounging right beside him.
Enlarge photo 3333
What does get Boone very excited is the prospect of going for a walk, and in his excitement he will be so wriggly that it is hard to get his harness on and leash attached! Boone has a quirk in that he only likes to poop when he is on a walk, so he does need a walk at least once every day even if he has a fenced yard.

Boone's new foster sister Izzy taught him how to play tug of war. At first he was very tentative, just holding onto the toy tightly but not moving at all. Eventually he got used to pulling backwards with some little tugs but is still working out how to jerk and shake and WIN! Click for a short video.

Boone's high prey drive extends to cats, unfortunately, as apparently he thinks they are some exotic form of squirrel. He is SO fixated and driven to get at any cat he spies that he absolutely would not be able to live with a cat, even a very dog-savvy one.

So if you are looking for a well behaved, confident, usually calm fellow...
Enlarge photo 3737
...who is strikingly good looking...
Enlarge photo 3838
... and very affectionate...

...then look no further because you have found him!
