ChwkCity,then PerfHonda
Our final league game was versus Chilliwack City, then the Performance Honda game was a sudden-death playoff.

City Game:
We were short 1 player for the whole game, due to memory lapses or other commitments.

We played pretty well, with maybe 20 chances. Lots of missed shots, some very close. City had 6 or 7 subs and this eventually wore us down.  The game didn't effect our standings, but it would have been nice to have a full crew.

Sleet started near the end of the game, then Hanway saw his chance and marched the ball in from our own half and blasted a shot in from the top of the box. His first of the season, and a beauty it was!

We got up early on Performance Honda. Bruce made a big goal kick that skipped nicely past their defenders and David pounced on it and put it in.

Justin was flying and he soon got a chance in front of the net. The goalie came ripping over with no intent to get the ball. He caught Justin hard on the shoulder and jaw and got a yellow card. (I'd say anyone besides a goalie would have had a red card on that one.)

Justin has a slight separation on his shoulder and he's now into the healing mode. It may be a few weeks or more. Meanwhile, I doubt that anyone on either team is going out dancing tonight. It was a long and rugged game!

David took the penalty shot — and the goalie stopped it. We couldn't get the rebound under control and they dodged a bullet.

PH came back and scored later in the first half.

A tie after regulation time would go to two 15s, then shootouts, so both teams were trying to get it done in the second half. Lots of action both ways but no goals.

Kyle was having a good time in the net, poking away a few high under-bar shots and standing tough against #20 a couple of times.

I got my first yellow card when I intercepted #20 as he headed for a break away. The "Lady Bing" group is now down to only a few players: Tim; Josh; Sitwala; Jon; Brian and Hanway. Did I miss any?

#20 went on to make a big (out of bounds 2x) play down the sideline and across to set up the go-ahead goal in the first overtime. We had our chances to tie it up but it wasn't to be.

3 or 4 of our guys were cramping up badly and there was a revolving door for the one sub late in the game.

It certainly was a fine team effort — probably our finest of the year — and we left everything on the field. Playoff action at its best!

Thanks to Al for post-game refreshments.

Kyle asked me to pass this on:

"It was a great season and a near perfect ending. I had a great time learning the game with you guys and I'm very proud of how much our team grew over the course of the season.

Judging by the heart we showed in these last two games I'm really excited about next season and I hope that all you guys will come out to drop in over the summer and keep practicing.

I would especially like to thank Garry, Barry, Bruce, and Al. You guys together did an awesome job of leading this team full of young and inexperienced players. The leadership and especially the patience that you guys showed over the year was very much appreciated and I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that.

Let's give the Young Guns a good run and show them how much we've improved since that 6-0 drubbing at the beginning of the season. Thanks again everyone for a great season. Try to stay in shape over the summer!!!"

Perhaps Fred will want to relocate to Hawaii next year?
I'll make the league applications if he does!
