YoungGuns
Great photos by Willa!
More great weather too — but we're finding new ways to lose. (1-3 this time.) Also, it's clear that the Guns haven't lost much of an edge with the loss of a number of key players.
Early in, Geoff had the ball and got hit hard by a Young Gun, who made no attempt to get the ball. The ball went off and Geoff protested the no-call.
When play resumed, Geoff smoked the next YG to touch the ball. Too bad it was their 5'8 guy, as he went flying. Geoff got a red card. (They picked up a yellow for a push-back.)
Guns scored shortly after but we held them down after that.
In the second half, we had the wind at our backs and Kyle launched a punt deep on the left wing. I believe it was Zane who got it and kicked it on net. The keeper or a d-man got a piece of it, but it went to the right side of the net, where Ryan Long just had to tap it in.
1-1 for quite a while, despite us being short a man. We didn't have much time or space to control the ball, but we won enough battles to thwart the YG attack.
Andrew got in close on the keeper and didn't get a lot of power on his kick. If he had, it would probably have beaten the keeper.
With about 10 minutes to go, one of their forwards walked through 3 or 4 of us and scored.
Kyle had been solid once more — and Bruce did well to clear a shot that hit the cross bar and was sitting in front of the net, with 4 Guns ready to fire.
Late on, the short guy handled the ball as it was about to go over the end line — but it wasn't yet totally out. The ref allowed it as a corner, as he said he had already called it out.
Later, the short guy and perhaps a few others were offside on a lob into the box... which they scored on. We called it as it was happening, but the ref allowed it.
Daniel K. wondered too loudly (though we didn't hear it) how much they were paying the ref... and got a red card for it.
Reds cost an extra game and $20 to be reinstated — so we need to watch what we do and say. 2 red cards by a player in a season = 3 games minimum suspension. It's painful! | Date(s): October 3, 2009. Album by Barry Stewart. Photos by Willa Wong. 1 - 41 of 41 Total. 252 Visits. |
