0-0 at the half in our game vs Old Settler on Friday night, though we had definite cracks at the goal. Settler was lucky.

We were passing well and being patient with the ball. There was one play where 5-6 guys touched the ball as it went down the field. Finally, DJ was set loose into the box. Two defenders crossed paths and one (Tommy) was knocked down. Andrew was covering the far post, but DJ's crossing shot went in just before Andrew's post. Al made a shot from high in the box for the 2-0 goal, then it was hold off the Pub crew as they pushed for a goal.

Both teams had a few subs, so it was different than winning against a short-handed team. We were full-value for the 2-0 win.


In our 1:00 o'clock Saturday game, DJ got us going vs KenRoc, then they got two against us. Their first was a beautiful one-touch volley on a ball that was dropping over my head as #13 streaked in behind me.

DJ got it back again to 2-2 —  then got fouled as he came into the box. The ref placed it OUTSIDE the box, rather than award the PK.

DJ also got an offside goal that was called back.

We ended up tied. Straight to PK and we got all 3 of our kicks in. Kyle stopped the middle KR kick that "Kiwi" kicked at him — then Kyle scored as our third kicker, to seal the win.

Old Settler lost both of their games. Kenroc had the YG 2-0 loss from Friday and the tie from our game. City beat Old Settler but lost 2-0 to YG, same as in the league championship. We were IN!

Daniel K. and Andrew — who go to the same church as most of the YG guys — wanted to win SO badly!

0-0 at the half, then about 10 minutes in they had a header off a corner kick go down to the ground and up over Daniel K's head.

It was a hard-fought game, with plenty of good hits (and some late YG hits). Daniel got a yellow card for a hip-check on a YG as he came close to the box. Kyle made an impossible save as the free kick went around the wall and low to the far corner.

They really keyed on DJ and we had a few chances to tie, but couldn't quite pull it off.

A great way to end a so-so season, though!

Message from Al Berry: Great tourney everyone, it was nice to see us put it together at the end of the season and play at the level we know we can.  I hope everyone uses this as incentive to work hard this summer and be in great shape come next fall.

DJ was ahead of the ball and in behind the keeper and the last defender, when Ryan shot. I'm not sure if DJ needed to shoot it to keep it on net — but the ref was actually correct in calling offside here.

Shortly before linesman Doug was knocked over backward when Ryan Long came flying to save a  ball that was going out. Doug caught Ryan's famous "flying ass" check right in the face.
