Well, it's fairly clear that this is NOT last year's team — even though over half of us were Choppers last season.

All of our additions have helped. We're faster, keeping the ball on the ground more often and giving our team-mates options for passes.

The game started off slowly, with the Tribe keeping up with us for the first 20 minutes.

Then the tide changed firmly. Somehow, I ended up with the ball near the top of the box and passed off to Al, who fired a hard shot. Ryan pounced on the rebound for the first goal.

DJ got the second goal, then Ryan made a high cross to Al, who nodded it into the net from beside the keeper. 3-0 at the half.

The second half started off slowly, then DJ made a corner kick to Ryan for 4-0.

Zane screamed for a pass (from Bruce?) at the top of the box and made it 5-0 — then Johnny and Al were fouled in the box and both scored on their PKs. Johnny's hit the underside of the crossbar and went in.

Late in the game, Zane picked up a loose ball in our end and raced it down the wing and into the box. The ball ended up on Al's foot for perhaps the first Chopper hat-trick. I believe Zane, DJ and Ryan have had 2-goal games in the past.

Justin was unlucky in getting a yellow card for a bit of physicality with their #3. James got one for a verbal exchange with several Tribesmen. The Tribe also picked up yellows in both situations.

Amazingly, Willa didn't get any of the goals, among her many fine photos.

Next week: the Young Guns, if the weather holds. We've had sun for all four of our games, to start the season.

For the good of the Tribesmen — and the rest of the league — I hope they can pick up a few key players, to give them a bit more help at both ends of the field.
