Note the stepped tang and that the stock is stepped tang inletted, indicating this M44 stock was made spcifically for early variation receivers.  Odd considering these stepped receivers hadn't been made since 1941.

Tang markings, Tula star and "44" for 1944.  The receiver would have been made prior to 1936, but Tula stamped it with the date they used it in production.
