The Tudor Black Bay Burgundy, Now A Mast
This being one of the FOIS editions (Omega introduced another panda dial last year, this one blue and white and cased in stainless steel), but one that looks nothing like my own, the watch feels very replica Zenith familiar but it offers a completely new sensory experience for the eyes and to the touch.Red color aside, the “Great White” is very similar to the DRSD: It retained the same 1665 reference number, the same water resistance, and the same case characteristics. The market value of these is far below that of any DRSD, with the exception of those Great Whites with Comex-signed dials. The “Great White” is notably the very last Sea-Dweller to feature a plexiglass crystal, a feature considered by many as a crucial component of a vintage watch.It’s been unseasonably warm in Japan, and that was never more apparent than when we made our way to the roof of Seiko House Ginza to see the famous clock. It’s just a shame that Godzilla really seems to have it in for the clock and keeps knocking it down. As the sun beat down, we grabbed a few quick photos before retreating to more air-conditioned venues.

This was an all-American man, and a Swiss watch from repliky Rolex Breitling did what it could to live up to the giant legacy he left behind. The Carpe Diem, which won the "Audacity Prize" at GPHG in 2021, is a highly complicated, engraved piece with an hourglass for a power reserve and a reminder to seize the day.With this watch, you get all the general styling that you love from Panerai including that recognizable case. But the brand has infused modern touches into this one via the GMT function with a subdial to help you differentiate between multiple timezones as well as a power reserve indicator. But the real modern touches come via the sunray blue dial and the blue stamped rubber strap. This is how you bring Panerai heritage to the modern day.
My immediate reaction was a type of gut-wrenching pain that may be unique to those who collect rare, old things and suffer the trauma of seeing a unique treasure disappear, in most cases, never to be seen again. I have been a fan of Colonel John Glenn since 1962 and have been interested in his watches since 2006. This particular version of the Breitling Cosmonaute, worn in space by Scott Carpenter, had been at the top of my “Most Wanted” list for several years.That brings us to today: The era of Luminova and Super-Luminova. Luminova was created in Japan in 1993, and LumiNova AG Switzerland was set up in 1998 to supply the Swiss watch industry. Luminova emits light that repliky Breitling it "collects" during exposure to light. Seiko's LumiBrite works the same way.But we are truly in watch-jewelry hybrid territory, which means I am not taking this as a trendy novelty – I'm looking at this as holy grail territory. I'll admit when I saw this in real life, I didn't quite feel that punch in the stomach that I experienced when I saw an OG "Stella" dial Rolex Day-Date at Phillips. But it was pretty darn close.
