Vintage 10-X Shooting Jacket
This is a 1940s era vintage 10-X Imperial brand military-style, high power shooting coat previously owned by a marksman in Massachusetts. It has a club pin with a member number dated from 1955. The patches indicate that the owner was a member of the Massachusetts state rifle association and was also a member of the state small bore rifle league. I bought it in May at the Kane County Fairgrounds Flea Market in St. Charles, IL. The album contains both before and after cleaning images.

10-X Imperial Shooting Coat - Front
This 10-X Imperial shooting coat is in very good condition. It has no rips or snags. All the buttons are still tightly sewn. However, it is quite dirty in spots and was pretty musty from years of storage. I hung it out in front of the house in the breeze and Sunlight to kill the odor. I plan to use some Pecard's Antique Leather Treatment to clean the padding.
"When was this posted? What size is the jacket?"

10-X Imperial Shooting Coat - Back
This snapshot shows the leather padding along with a 1955 Lynn, Massachusetts club member pin and two Massachusetts state patches that were hand sewn to the back.

I spent some time looking into the proper way to clean the fabric so as not to damage it. If not for it's age, this coat is theoretically in usable condition.

Front with Padding
After consulting with a docent at the historic Colonel Gustavus A. Palmer House in Crystal Lake, IL and a textiles expert at the McHenry County Historical Society in Marengo, IL, I took the coat to the cleaner they recommended. They removed the club pin and the two felt patches from the back before sending it to a leather cleaner.

The dry cleaner's assessment was that "cotton is a difficult fabric to dry-clean because of what is known as redeposition of oils and dyes. When coupled with a contrasting dyed leather, redeposition is very likely; particularly when prespotting stains. Any further work on the remaining stains may result in them becoming more evident. Attempts at prespotting may cause very drastic redeposition, which may be less desirable than a soiled garment."

Back with Patches and Padding
After the leather padding was cleaned, the fabric was cleaned, and the patches hand sewn in their original locations. As you can see, not all the grime was removed from the leather. The leather cleaner stated that "Lamb/Goat/Deer Skins are fine leathers with a soft, buttery feel to the hand. It is analine dyed rather than painted. The texture will be compromise if refinishing is required."

As for the stains, the dry-cleaner said "The stains have not been overlook on this item. Older and deeper stains can be impossible to remove. The stains have been prespotted and any more attempts to remove them could cause color or texture damage."

MRA Patch and 1955 Club Pin
The upper golden 4-inch diameter felt patch says "Mass. - Rifle - Ass'n. Inc. 1875" that circles a blue shield with a red band the runs at an angle behind a white eagle's head.

The white 2-inch diameter club pin that says "EASTERN" "LYNN" (on top) "RIFLE & REV. CLUB INC." (on the bottom). In the center "19" (on either side of a bull with two crossed rifles) "55" in red lettering and the number "92" in blue beneath the bull (probably a member number).

The club continues to exist as the Eastern Rifle & Revolver Club, Inc. at 315 Walnut St. in Lynn, MA.
