ANSWER: 1940S-50S
What decade would you say chatelaines were most popular?  And what decade do you think this one might be from?  Also, thought maybe newcomers might like seeing this example.

"I actually thought it might be late 1930's. I have some 1930's Vogue and the look and style of some of the Summer jewelry is close to that." --Vera Battemarco, 02/28/09
"I also forgot to mention that at first, the pins and brooches would just have a little safety chain and a safety pin, nothing special. Then as time went by designers figured out they could make both ends pretty. Remember back then they did not have the safety catch we have now. I think that came about in the late 30's. This is what I read from the book "How to be a jewelry detective"." --Vera Battemarco, 02/28/09
"It reminds me of the Thief of Baghdad pieces, which is why I dated it there:)" --Sheri Weiss, 02/28/09
"I love your chatelaine, Rosie, and also am inclined to think 40s! Like Sheri, I thought immediately of the Thief of Baghdad jewelry, too... though I have yet to collect nearly enough of it, IMO jewelry with magic lamp, scimitar, crown etc motifs is just soooo cool!" --Carrie Pollack, 02/28/09
"I haven't read all the replies yet, but here is a link to our Chatelaine cow. Yours is very different. Thanks and I will add it to the album. http://imageevent.com/thejewelryring/cowrevisitedchatelaines" --Judi Bollan, 02/28/09
