I am hoping a Chanel collector can give me information regarding whether all more recently made (i.e. 70's/80's) Chanel jewelry has a logo/cartouche on the back of the piece.  I have never owned or sold any Chanel, but purchased a lot which included 3 pairs of earrings, a necklace and belt plus matching brooch.  2 pairs of earrings had a logo on the back, and the necklace had a logo/tag as well.  The belt/brooch and one pair of earrings did not have the logo on the back, but seemed just as well made and of the same quality to me, although I am certainly not an expert.  These pieces all appear to be from the 80-'s or so judging by style.  A buyer on Ebay informed me that the belt and brooch must be fake, as ALL Chanel has a logo on the back, and therefore I was selling a fake piece.  I would love to know if this is correct, as I certainly would not intentionally sell a fake.  Any help would be appreciated.

"Cheri may be able to help you out as she wrote that fabulous article for JR's Focus on Design series, all about Chanel...Let's hope she sees your post" --Judi Bollan, 01/03/09
"You can ask for information at www.chanel.com: Someone there may know. They don't like to make info public about the difference between the fakes and the real because they think that will help the thieves make better fakes. I do know that a 1981 Chanel hang tag has been copied and hung on necklaces that are not Chanel. As far as other fakes go, I would advise you to go to the source." --Rebecca Fransway, 01/03/09
