"Trifari did not use sterling until sometime in 1942---so this brooch was made sometime from 1942 until 1948 when they stopped using sterling. Remember, after 12/7/1941, the US government issued a ban on all base metals. They were to be used in the war effort and so all costume jewelry companies used sterling--it was plentiful and cheap." --Pat Seal, 10/31/07
