ANSWER: NOT CHATELAINE -- COULD BE CALLED SWAG
I need a little help with this piece. It has a quality feel to it. The back is even detailed. The C-Clasp is very sturdy. I want to call it Art Nouveau but the 3 little chains hanging from it remind me of a key holder. I'm not even sure it is a brooch, It may be a medal. It is marked Germany. The 3 little clear chatons are paste or glued in. The center is a Ruby Red Glass. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

"Yes, that is a brooch. Probably from about the 50's or 60's, if I'm wrong someone will let me know, lol. I guess you could call it chatelaine but I've just called them draping or something to that effect. I had several newer ones that I loved in the 80's that I wore as a type of bar pin with a mock tuxedo blouse." --Lilly Vittetow, 09/19/08
"I would call this piece a swag style brooch rather than a chatelaine brooch since my understanding of a chatelaine brooch consists of two separate pins connected with chains, such as this piece listed on my website. I am probably incorrect but with my background in interior design that is what we would call curtains in this style, swags." --Dan Day, 09/19/08
"I agree that a chatelaine must have at least 2 separate pins joined by a chain." --Tracy Green, 09/19/08
