ANSWER: NOT ITALIAN MILLEFIORI
Do these beads have a name? They are glass...In my mind I was thinking millefiore/millefiori but I am not sure that is correct.

"Italian Murano glass is my bet." --Linda Lombardo, 11/15/08
"I do no think these are Murano glass lampwork beads -- if you look carefully, you can almost see a seam where the beads were press molded -- nothing raised, just a break in the dappling pattern. I'd bet they were German, 1930s or so, and fashioned after popular millefiori style beads. The colors are wonderful!" --Anne Morrissey, 11/15/08
"Yes there is like a seam mark very smooth but you can see it because the coloring doesn't flow right at the seam-doesn't line up. I appreciate your input." --Linda Lange, 11/15/08
"Just thought I'd add that millefiori (translated, means "thousand flowers") are decorated with round, intricately patterned slices of glass --sometimes smoothed into the surface of the bead; sometimes not. Dots-like the decorations on your beads are just that - dots. If the beads had been handmade, the beadmaker would have rolled the molten glass solid color bead into frit, or small pieces of colored glass. To get the flat dotted look, they would then melt the color into the base to achieve a smooth surface. Your beads are molded, not lampworked" --Anne Morrissey, 11/15/08
