ANSWER: MARKED GERMANY, US ZONE
Here's one I've never seen before. This 1960s brooch is marked Germany U.S. Zone. I found this info on the CIA World Factbook site: "The Federal Republic of Germany (FRG or West Germany), proclaimed 23 May 1949, included the former UK, US, and French zones. Unification of West Germany and East Germany took place 3 October 1990; all four powers formally relinquished rights 15 March 1991."

"Never seen that mark before. Very interesting. I would like to add your pin to our Germany album if that is ok." --Judi Bollan, 03/15/09
"I've heard of such marks, but never saw one. Think it was only used in the earlier years. Nice pin, Nona, interesting combo of stones." --Linda Jo Mitchell, 03/15/09
"The colors are much more vibrant. I had really low light when I took the picture. Question... Would you say that it's 1960s?" --Nona Grampp, 03/15/09
"I think the "zones" only existed from 1945 until May, 1949, when the 3 western zones united to form the Federal Republic of Germany. So, that mark may have been used only during those years. However, we all know that findings, like that little applied name tag can hang around and be used years down the road." --Dotty Stringfield, 03/15/09
"Dotty, this just doesn't look like a 1940s brooch. It sounds like the official "Zones" weren't in effect until 1949." --Nona Grampp, 03/15/09
"Take a look at the information on this page about toys made in the US zone. http://www.supertechnogirl.com/articles/cashregisterspecial/uszonegermany.htm" --Dotty Stringfield, 03/15/09
"1950s makes moree sense Dotty. Thanks for sharing that link." --Nona Grampp, 03/15/09
