Sweet pictures!  I will be doing my first dives in Lake Michigan this coming year and I think I now know where I am going!

Can you contact me please so I can get specific directions to that area?

Thanks.

I'm an avid freediver in Santa Barbara California and did some diving this year in canada and Michigan, and realized it's wonderful (I'm originally from Michigan).  But your photos are unreal, and prove that it's all about what you make of a dive.  Excellent adventures, thanks.

Sandy HallFri, 21 Sep 2007 9:46PM

I would really like to buy the Lake Trout Photo of 2/27/2006 by Christopher Morey - largest size available for my son. HOw can I contact him?

Chris,

I met you and your buddy at Elmwood May 12.  I should have stuck around and done another dive, just to watch you work.  Your photos are really great, and I also enjoyed the video of the bowfin.  I'll be watching for you the next time I get up to TC.

Im exited and can't  wait to dive and explore  this place. There is nothing like that around Chicago Area. I would like to get some information about the place where exactly it is and where   the pictures  were taken.
Im beginer in marine fotography and this place is just like paradise for me.
I be thankfull  for some information about it.
Thank You.

PS. This  picture galery is more like great.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Maytag a.k.a. "Jeanette"Sat, 13 Jan 2007 9:50AM

These are spectacular photos. I really love the hues of blue, green, and everything in-between. Looking at your pictures made me realize I only know fish if it comes to me on a 5x8 inch styrofoam rectangle, covered in plastic wrap and sealed with a price tag. I have even more respect for stories about spearfishermen cooking their own catch. There is a lot of work between catching, cooking, and dining! Well done.

John R. WolfeWed, 27 Dec 2006 9:29PM

Hey Chris -

I'm a scuba diver out in California, and we met just before one of your winter dives in Grand Traverse Bay a couple years ago, when I was in the area visiting my folks.

I'm active in a volunteer diver fish survey program called REEF.  They don't have a Great Lakes program yet, but I'm encouraging them to consider setting up such a program, using your photos (and Nancy Washburn's snorkelling book) as an example of the broad range of fish species that Michigan divers can see.  If you have a moment, check out www.reef.org, and let me know via e-mail (jwolfe@igc.org) if you'd be interested in a similar program in Michigan.

As always, super-impressed by your photos and dedication to diving.

Happy diving -- John Wolfe

i freedive with my camera here in Southern California and i have to say that your pictures of freshwater fish are absolutely fantastic, the best i have seen anywhere! As you know, it's all about the subject and that chance encounter.. it looks like you have put tremendous effort into compiling a whole host of different fish species. Fresh water gives me the creeps, so i admire you bravery and tenacity~

Thanks for sharing...

Wow, those are great photos!  I grew up in Michigan near the Saginaw bay.  And, you photos bring back great memorys of being a kid there.  (I live and freedive in SoCal now.)It's amazing what the zebra mussels have done for the water clarity, at least in Lake Huron.  I'm sure they've helped Lake Michigan too.  Thanks for sharing your photos!

Dude! Those pictures are great! I would never have believed that Lake Michigan waters could be so clear.  I'm impressed to say the least.

Eric EngbretsonMon, 7 Aug 2006 8:37AM

Chris,
Very nice!  I am astounded by the variety of the fish you encountered.  Please email me-I have some questions for you.

Really great photos. Nice to see such clear water. My daughter Sandra who lives in Traverse City sent me these. She grew up in San Diego eating platters of abalone and many of the other goodies from those great Southern Calif. waters. I had the good fortune to know many of the early underwater photographers. I dove for 35 years and am now retired in Oregon. Thanks for the sharing of your fun experiences and photos. Larry Beaver

Great Pictures!  I live in Grand Haven Michigan and do some freediving in Lake Michigan as well.  I am actually in Europe and just finished freediving in Croatia on the Adriatic Sea for a few days.  It would be cool to come up and dive some of these spots with you sometime.  Here is my email address.

Hey Chris - It was great meeting you last Sunday at West Grand Traverse Bay as you were about to wade into that coooold water.  Very cool fish pics - showed my dad, who knows his Michigan fish better than I do - Gar Pike, Smallmouth Bass, Steelhead, Salmon, Perch, and a mermaid... very cool.  Had a good time celebrating my dad's 80th; will return sometime this summer.  If you want to see some (amateurish) photos of central California kelp forests and fish, check out my wife's and my website: www.imageevent.com/arnellandjohn .   Best fishes !!

jim bedardMon, 6 Mar 2006 2:39PM

absolutely fabulous ...spellbinding photos.!!! an education in itself just looking at them.i was trained in scuba diving many years ago and still practice and maintain my love and respect for what's beneath the surface of the water....but have not yet seen sights down there like how and what you have captured on film.  please keep up the great work you two do and perhaps fellow divers, snorkelers, and even some topside dwellers will gain a greater respect for what lies below. GREAT JOB both of you. perhaps someday we shall meet in the water. keep in touch if you'd like and please keep updating yoor site. THANK YOU both (3/6/06)

Dale & SheralSat, 25 Feb 2006 2:23PM

HenrikFri, 24 Feb 2006 1:15PM

Really nice pics! I am a freediver from Sweden that recently moved to Michigan... Are there any fellow freedivers in this area? Would be fun to atleast have contact with a few and even better do some diving! As I said! really nice pics!

DarleneFri, 24 Feb 2006 10:00AM

These photos are amazing!  They remind me of paintings by an artist I once read about that paints under the water in oils.

paul m. healeyFri, 24 Feb 2006 8:57AM

Glad to see an exhibit of the beauty of the Great Lakes.  You must have great patience and a good eye to capture these shots.  Bravo!!
