First off, just like every other animal in the world, there are always free ads for guinea pigs on classifieds. But it's not just because "the vast majority of children are taught to dump their animals" I have no idea where you are getting your statistics. Look at all the kittens that don't even have a chance at getting a home. Mixed breed dogs are always trying to find a home, and are in and out of shelters. There are irresponsible pet owners out there....but its not the vast majority. The vast majority of pet owners have had their pets for years. Some people can't keep their pets do to life situations like moving to a place where you can't have pets, allergies that they didn't realize they had prior to the purchase or adoption of the animal. But the majority are able to, and want to keep their pets because they love them very much, this includes children.
The person that was using profanity was 15 years old. Of course they are uneducated. Let's not start picking on children...that just shows your immaturity.

I would get your guinea pig from the local humane society. They have dozens, and will adopt one out to you if you bring your parent. They need homes JUST as bad as any from a shelter specializing in just guinea pigs. And, they will not scrutinize you like a second class citizen as some places do, just because your 14 and your guinea pig is in your room.

Oh my goodness! Finally someone in my area, I too live in Spring Hill!  I must ask, is he a short haired or long haired?  Here I've been consumed with thoughts of adding a guinea pig to my family!  I didn't want to buy and I wanted to find a piggy in my area that was in need of a home. Currently I have no cage, thought that would come when I find my piggy. Meantime I have dog crates, cages and bins to hold the little fella until a cage is purchased. I use to have 10 guinea pigs as a child. So if you haven't found the little guy a home yet please contact me. Thank you, and thank you for doing the right thing and rescuing him off the street. What were those people thinking?

I live in Spring Hill, FL. Yesterday I caught wandering near my compost pile, a tan and white guinea pig. He was deliberately released into the empty lot next to me by someone that lives in the neighborhood that was somehow under the mistaken belief that these animals can survive in the wild. After a couple of days I was able to lure this piggy with carrots and catch him. He is living in my cats pet taxi. I can not keep him as I am over my head with the animals I live with now.

I would love to adopt from you but you are too far away, but I am going to the Shelter here tomorrow to find me a friend for my "Hunny". This site thought me stuff even I didn't know.....thank you

i have a beautiful 4 month old guinnea pig. he is in a very large cage. food,hay and cusion for the bottom of cage. i feel horrible but she needs more love and holding. please if your an animal lover,please call 909-982-8803

My family and I are looking for a piggy to take home. Sadly, we will have to purchase one from a pet-store (the horror, I know)--we live in an area where it is difficult to get piggies. In fact, it takes the pet-store a month or so to get them in.

I am glad you have placed all the important pros and cons on your website--we have a 3-year-old and a 1-year-old who are quite excited...they believe the piggy will be theirs but it will live in my office, with me all day long (home-office) where I can watch their offending little fingers. I will be constructing my C&C cage before I get the piggy, and will be buying a cat-carrier for traveling.

I think piggies DO make good starter pets, and they are easier than cats and dogs (which are difficult to keep away from toddlers, require a hell of a lot more space, etc.) but you are right, too many parents give them to kids as chores. My 3-year-old will be helping ME clean and feed the piggies...and as she grows older, she may adopt the responsibility if I think she can handle it (under supervision). That's how they learn responsibility, not by forcing it upon them...but by example and guidance.

I have had my guinea pig for some time now and I've been trying to find a rescue that would adopt out *one* guinea pig...I thought this rescue would be a promising place to find my baby girl a friend, but guess what? I'm 14 and the cage is in my room (look out the guinea pig is going to be dead in a week!!!) Come on, seriously! I love my guinea pig to death and all I want is to ADOPT a friend for her..is that really so much to ask!?
I know many kids out there are very irresponsible, but, think about it, there are many that are responsible, too. In fact, I have plans of attending college to become an exotics vet.
I agree with the other people on here; by not letting "kids" have the cage in their room, you are scaring people into buying pet store guinea pigs. Actually, I got my guinea pig from a pet store because I wanted to adopt from here, but apparently I'm not responsible enough and I'm just going to get bored with it and dump it, blah, blah, blah...
Another bit of information that makes your restrictions a little harsh is that I have MORE than the standard cage requirements! My cage is a two level, c&c cage - the bottom level being a 2x4 with a 2x2 addition, and the top level being a 2x4 with a 1x2 loft.
I, too, think what you do, in general, is great. I understand you're just trying to find the best possible homes for your guinea pigs, but I think you should be a little softer on us, and realize that there really are a lot of wonderful homes just begging for a guinea pig pair/trio or a friend for their guinea pig, but can't get that from your rescue because they don't meet every single request you have before they even think about filling out the adoption application. Which, by the way, reminds me; the application asks about pets...does that really matter as long as the guinea pigs are in a room the other animals can't get into???
Don't get me wrong, it's so wonderful that there are rescues dedicated to guinea pigs, but you would find great homes a lot faster if you would lower your standards and maybe just cover all your concerns over the phone or email or during an interview..etc..

I have to disagree with the last two comments. Yes some parents will teach their children how to properly care for and love a guinea pig and will help their children care for them. But the vast majority of parents are irresponsible idiots who only teach their children that if they are bored the animal can be disposed of. Here in Utah there are constantly guinea pigs on local classified websites being sold because their owners don’t want them any more. I went on there today and several guinea pigs are up for sale and the reason is usually something like, “My kids are tired of him and don’t want to take care of him any more,” or “ I’ve had her for two years and found out am allergic.” Give me a break! I recently adopted three guineas from a woman who has been trying to rescue guinea pigs from these irresponsible people.  A word to the wise, when you use profanity it is hard to take you seriously, you come off an uneducated person. You had a wonderful opportunity to show how responsible you are and you blew it.

How can you say that children cannot take care of a guinea pig. You say that 95% of kids will lose interest in their guinea pigs. That is bullshit. I think that 95% or your info is bullshit. I am kid who is 13 years old. My parents and i adopted 3 guinea pigs from a rescue center and I told my parents that i would take full responsibilty for everything. That was 5 years ago and my guinea pig are doing great. If you think kids are not responsible enough then why do i walk to the pet store every week to pick up supplies and i know that timothy hay is better for them then alfalfa hay. Your stereotypical ways are ridiculous. I have bought everything for my guinea pigs with my own hard earned money for 5 years. irresponsible my ass.

I also agree with Elysia. Not ALL parents and ALL children are bad for guinea pigs. I have boys, 1, 3 and 11. They are ALL very caring and gentle with mine and my husbands supervision. They love their piggies and have never, because of our supervision, showed any bad behavior towards our cavies. We have 3 girls, and I brought all of them to the vet where they were determined healthy. I DID buy them from a petstore but I believe it as rescuing them. I was misinformed with the first of the sex but because I had previous knowledge of sexing I was ok with the result. No pregnancies but we did lose Honey whom we rescued with Cinnamon 2 weeks after. Honey had an infected eye, was younger than Cinnamon and had suffered an injury from one of my other girls who is bigger than her.
I believe that as a responsible, caring and loving parent you can have responsible, caring and loving children. If they are taught right from the beginning there should be no problems.
CavySpirit has every right to be angry with the treatment of cavies in petstores but to protray such anger on the site, to me, scares off the people who would like to adopt! I understand the need for such and the need to screen protential adopters but its make me personally want to rescue from a shelter or petstore. Even if that means they are ailing or may die. Atleast they will have been taken from a bad place and been loved and cared for properly by us!

I just felt that I had to leave a message since I felt that while you have excellent information on guinea pigs, and seem to do an excellent job rescuing them, some of your comments in your informational page really offended me and I'm sure it offended other people as well.
The fact that you are constantly saying that children cannot take care of a guinea pig is very incorrect. I myself got my first guinea pig at the age of 8 years old. Cronk died when I was 16.  While it is true that there are some children that cannot take care of ANY animal including a guinea pig, there are children that are very responsible. I’ve known many.

I am a parent. I have a six year old, turning seven next month. So, am I also marked in your “vast majority of the parental population” that views guinea pigs as toy? And “parents don’t THINK they think that way, but fundamentally, they do”. What’s that supposed to mean? That I don’t notice myself thinking about all the animals I could buy for my daughter to torture? That because I can raise a HUMAN child, I cannot raise, or make the proper life decisions for a guinea pig? You must not be a parent.
As well, I would never get a guinea pig solely for my daughter, as I feel she is not capable of taking care of a guinea pig. She has 3 female mice that she feeds every morning and evening (with my supervision) And attends to their watering needs and sanitation needs. This is a pet that she is able to handle ALONG with my supervision.
Any parent that would get a guinea pig for a child that is not already capable of taking care of the pet, along with not supervising the child with this care, should not be looking for a pet for said child.Period.
The fact that you make children out to be some horrible creatures that will destruct any animal they get their hands on is so untrue. And the way you make it out like you know what all parents are thinking, and they don’t know what they are thinking, it sounds highly psychotic.

The truth of the matter is yes, there are children that are spoiled, that get whatever they want, use it for a while, and then dump it. Hey, it happens. The majority of children, however, that I have known in my lifetime, have stuck by their little friend to the bitter end and cried real tears when the guinea pig died.
I hope you realize you are not only offending parents, making yourself seem very hateful towards parents and children like we are some second class citizen, but you are also aiding the pet selling pet shops by scaring people away from adopting.
I have three girls (guinea pigs) two of which I bought from a pet shop (gasp) and the second I rescued from a pet shop in a small town an hour from where I live. She was half starved, old, and in a hamster cage.
I came to your page because I wanted to look up more health information for my older gal (Lippy), however, some of your comments made me sick.
The fact that I have a child in my household by no means lowers the care my guinea pigs get. In fact, it boosts the care immensely. Jessica (6 years old and around a cavy, oh no!) Brings up their fresh food, aids with the feeding, aids with sanitation,(large chloroplast cage)  and even holds them (and they are still alive !)
Anyways, I suppose I have made myself quite clear. And this was by no means to offend you because what you do for cavies is great, but it was to bring attention to how you are offending the majority of the public that have children, or are children. You really made me feel like a second class citizen who had no right to own a guinea pig. Perhaps you need to reflect on that.

I'm getting a guinea pig this Saturday! I'm finding out all I can about taking care of guinea pigs. I CAN'T WAIT TO GET ONE!!

We have 8 guinea`s and we love all of them. I wish I could take in all that I see here in eastern Kentucky.
They make wonderful friends and they do require alot of work,but we thinks that they are all worth all of the hard work.

Thanks for this wonderful site.  I am a new guinea pig owner and I love my little guy.  I am a teacher and he travels back and forth to school with me.  He has been such a great addition not only to the classroom, but for me.  I have students with special needs and he can calm my kiddos right down.  I feel it is important to mention I do not let them handle him for fear of them dropping him.  Thanks for the wonderful information.  It is truly helpful!

am a beginner at raising guinea pigs, so thanks a bunch for this website. I have a question: I have two male guinea pigs; one at 2 months and the other at about four, but my bigger one doesn't seem to like my smaller one [I recently bought my smaller one] I am worried that if they start fighting, I will have to separate them. What are the signs of two rival cavies?

I have tried to find guinea pig rescues in the Tampa, Florida area but am not having much luck. Also, is it better to get a younger or older male to pair him up with? Any help would be appreciated. I just lost my guinea pig of about one year and a half. She was loved very much. We are looking to get some more. I have one that is getting old, but she is doing GREAT! I don't know what happened to her, she just lost her strength and died.

my guinea pig, edward or 'BUDDY" as i call him, i can't quite age him. i have already sexed him, obviously, cuz my guy friends said he had bigger nadders than most of their brothers, but i can't quite put my finger on how old he is. i'm sure he's an adult, but i need a ranged number. he is quite fat, and stretched out he is about 7 or 7 1/2 inches long. i am also looking into getting him a bigger cage.
i'm too scared to clip his nails, and boy do they need it, but i'm scared i'll injur him and hurt him bad, what kind or nailclippers do i use?
bathtime is never a hastle, but it's sometimes a hazard. what kinda shampoos do i use? i've been using regular human shampoo+conditioner, and it does the trick, but is it dangerous?
just like any other good pet owner, i'm worried for his social life. i want to get him a friend, but im not sure how he'll interact. he liked my rat, Ratatoullile (rat-a-too-ee) a lot, but she is a rat, not a cavy.

I just lost my little piggy of 5 years.  It will take one special piggy to replace her.  She defeated cancer for 3 years and finally was put down to an enlarged heart, liver and cancer spots showing on her lungs.  I miss her so much right now.  Thank you all for letting me air my grief.

BS; a lot of kids do. But, I HIGHLY doubt it's 95%; this is a great site. There are a few guinea pigs that I wouldn't mind adopting and the information is great. :]

i love the piggies. i have 5 males right now living in a 2 level c&c type cage its 6long and 2 wide.  wiht upper levels on each end.  my kitty love to lounge in the bedding and snuggle with the oldest peruvian. i have 2 boxers and an english bulldog who also love the piggies they all talk to each other and get floor time together. they love to say hello when i come home from work.

One of my guinea pigs recently died of pnemonia. i dont want more guinea pigs but i feel bad for my remaining guinea who lost her lifetime friend. She's 5 years old and im afraid she'll get depressed all alone. Thats not a good way to spend the rest of your days. I dont want a young guinea pig though since they are alot of work. My three sons & I rescued a sweet male this summer.  He was actually offered to us at a rummage sale!  He was a pet for 4 children, none were caring for him.  Speedy is now living at our home w/ two other furballs and being spoiled.  To the delight of my boys, he sings opera!

I currently have 4 piggies, 3 males (Mozart, Texas and Felix) and 1 girl (Piper). I did recently have another girl (Daisy) but she died of old age. We are going to start breeding soon as we have been given 3 hutches from a friend who previously bred them. We were told 2 b careful who we buy them from so that we dont end up with deformed pigs. We are getting 2 females in 1 week!

I was planning to buy a guinea pig from Petco, but them I found out that one of our friends were moving and I adopted the poor piggie. She sat outside for a year in a rabbit hutch, and didnt have very good care.

I was feeding my guinea pig and he spoke to me for the first time.  He said, "enough of those vegies!  Give me that steak on your grill." Shocked at what had just happend I gave the little tyke my steak.  Since I've been feeding him nothing but meat lately, he has grown to be 4 feet tall.  Stop feeding your guinea vegies and give it lots of meat.

I came to this website for more information on nuetering our 2 young male gp. I found out a lot of information. We had "Simon" given to us about 10 years ago and he lived about 5 yrs. I missed the sqeaks and the playing with him so much I bought a baby "Maddeline" and she is now almost 6 yrs. we also have aquired 2 baby males. We all love to play with them and talk to them. Even my husband who says he doesn't like them. We have a condo we made for them, I love the fact they can be next to each other, but not together. Maliki and Snickers love to play but don't get along in the same cage. They realy need to be with family and part of the everyday activities.

I love your site, I came here looking for information about guinea pigs, and as soon as the little movie started it broke my heart and I began to cry, now I wish I had known about this before I went to the pet store. I purchased two guine pigs recently, my daughter has been the proud owner of 2 guine pigs over the years and she lost both of them, just recently she lost her 2nd one named tinkerbell the 2nd, we came home one evening to find her passed away, she lived 7 years, my husband I were heart broken, you cannot replace one with another but we know how much our oldest daughter cares for them, so we purchased a new one and suprised her with it two days ago, she hasn't left it's side since. We then purchased one for our youngest daughter and she is in guine pig heaven, she takes care of it as if it were her child, her name is Snowy, they are a wondertful addition to our home. If I know anyone looking for a guine pig I will deffinately refer them to you.

I have a female guinea pig named Charlotte. I got her a couple years back and when I got her she was pregnant! She had 4 babbies on my mom's birthday(Nov.15). They were all sooo cute!, but she would not keep them:( Char is still living and LOVES her green  veggies! I think she weighs even more than my dog!(my dog is a Papillon, he weighs 3 lbs.)

We adopted Frankie and Mickey from Cavy Spirit in July and they are doing great!  Mickey is our mellow fellow, who occasionally sits on top of his pigloo.  Frankie lives to eat, and can't sit still if there's the possiblity of more fresh fruit/veggies in sight.  But he will snuggle up in the crook of your arm.  Frankie drools when he eats veggies, so he ends up with a green (lettuce)or orange (carrot)fu-manchu.  After a tomato, he looks like Dracula! The adoptable piggies here are so cute, we wish we had room for more!

i have adopted a guinea pig called bruce and he has a great chariter i love him so much and i feel sorry for guinea pigs who need a good home.

I just love it when guinea pigs purr when you pet them a certain way and when they cuddle up to you looking for a little niche to hide in, but watch out, some times they back up and pee on ya. :-)  Mine is named Angel and shes chinchilla & white colored, shes about 7 weeks, a baby.. she loves to sit in my daughters lap under her books while she does her homework.. and she likes to put her treade mark chew marks on the work.

Those are all lovely guineas, I wish I could re-home them all, but I'm sure they will be re-homed soon :)  A quick FYI... Shannon is not an American Crested, but is infact a crested Himalayan (note the dark skin on ears and nose, the red eyes, and the darker fur on the feet)  I have two Himalayans, and three crested and always wondered what a crested Himalayan would look like... Now I know :D  I hope Shannon finds a good home :)

Greetings from way over in Philadelphia!  What you guys are doing is great and if I could make the trip, I'd adopt them all (also assuming I had the money)!  I'm happily raising my two females and, now, a male that a friend of mine could no longer care for.  With a visit to the doctor's office and some monitored mingling, I'll have a cage of three!

I have 10 piggies and I love everyone the same. 6 boys and 4 girls 2 sets of bonded piggies. 6 outta the 10 were adults when we got them all from families who were moving or going on cruise. WE LOVE PIGGIES!!!!!!

We just adopted a piggy from SJ Animal Shelter.  She is around 4 yrs, a "teddy bear" piggy, we named her Nelly. I am looking for a friend for my cavy chewy he is only 6 weeks, but I don't want him to be lonely while I am at work.

It is soooo great to see a place who cares soooo much about animals in general, and I thank you greatly. I used to have a friend who lived on a ranch, and she had every single kind of animal, you name it, she had it! The sad thing was than her guineas were outside in one hutch, boys and girls. She would have soooo many litters and would sell them, but I always felt horrible for them, because the ammount would always go up, ten, eleven, twelve...etc. But they all stayed in that one hutch!

I used to have 2 beutiful gueina pigs until yesterday when the younger 1 died. I can already see the signs of distress on the remainign guinea pig. :S if we get a new G.P it means we will get into an endless chain, but i cant stand 2 c holly so depressed :(:(:( HELP

I think adoption is a wonderful idea. I recently lost my Buttercup "Gin-gin as I affectionately called her" after eight wonderful years, and she is deeply missed by my entire family. I would love to contact someone in my area if at all possible to see if any guineapigs are available for adoption. I love these guys they are so cute.  I have two of them, and they are both spoiled.  They lay on the couch with me every night and play.  But I do think that before someone buys a one they need to think how much attention they need.  I would take all of these if I could.

How could I choose between all these adorable critters???  Since I live on the east coast I certainly couldn't have any of these piggies, but I take care of the shelter pigs and bunnies in my area.  My Taffy is a taffy/tan colored girl who's nearing 5 years.  I'd like to get her a friend but Taffy is so bullish that she'd run the newbie right out of Dodge!  She wasn't very kind to her sister, either.  Since her sister died 18 months ago, Taffy took total control of the living space and has more attitude than my two cats!

i have 2 adorable guinea pig sisters!  they are darkish brownish goldish! they look like Boris and Rocky. their names are Sunflower and Precious! My aunt just got a new Abyssinian guinea pig who i can't wait to see! His name is Hershey because he looks like a two-toned piece of chocolate candy!!! She used to  have 4 others whose names were Brownie, Peanut, Sam, and Sabrina. :(        PS: Nugget is my 16 pound adorable cutsie pie! ( he's a cat )

I have five rescue piggies of my own. My son just had a great experience with one of his rescues at a local pet show where the audience broke into applause when they heard his pet was rescued.

I love this web page im fostering a baby and want to find a sister for her and it looks like I found the right site, or a brother (fixed of course) all her siblings have died due to the mothere dieing after she gave birth 3 days before. I have had many guinea pigs once we had gotten a pair of gp that were supposed to be males but one of themturned out to be a female and got pregnent. she had two babies.then her son mated her and she had two more babies hen  one from her most recent batch which we thought were a girl mated his mother Calico(the mother)had 4 batches of babys and 10 altogher(the babies were all sold)she died a whileback as well as her first mate, Then we got 2 sisters chater box and moka, moka died when i was in 5th grade,,the other october this year.We are hopefuly geting another gp after chrismas vacation

I have 6 guinea pigs at home,2 were adopted from the local animal shelter. There is a shortage of guinea pigs in Singapore. If any appear in the pound ( which is not very often)they will be snapped up fast. There are a lot of people here who can give them good homes. Recently its been difficult to find a guinea pig even at a pet shop, which has caused backyard breeding to become even more rampant to provide the supply to meet demand. If only there was some way to send some of these little darlings over here!

We have 5 pigs, 1 is 9 years old that we rescued and adopted from my daughter's school, 2 are from the pet store (I realized now that I was very lucky in getting two healthy females and our 2 newest ones we got from a pet hospital in SF. I have a friend who works there and she called me hoping I could take them because someone had dropped them off a week earlier. My daughter and I read your site every day and tell other about the great times we have with the pigs.

I have 4 cavies, love them all. But I have been reading that if one dies, the bonded mate doesn't last long without the other. Any comments on that?

I have 4 guinea pigs, two I bought from a pet store that sold another unfortunate guinea pig as snake food, Max(a female)I took on from a neighbor because they didn't want it any more, but since I have been looking at many sites on the net I have realized there are homeless guineas and so our last guinea was from the SPCA.  I definitely will never buy another guinea pig, but I definitely will adopt.  I wish I had realized that earlier, like when I was 8 instead of 25 but thanks for having the site and being responsible.

I just want to say, that I really appreciate the reality check your site has given me on breeding guinea pigs. A few years ago, I owned a male guinea pig (a beautiful black abbysian-Romeo) which I bred with a friend's female torti. They had two beautiful babies, and we each kept one. We were lucky. I didn't realize until I read your site what a BAD idea it is to breed. Recently, I have been thinking about getting another guinea pig, and the thought DID cross my mind to breed some babies. But what for? And to what extent am I willing to take away a home, for a rescue pig. Now, I have decided that I will be getting another pig. Maybe two. But they will be from my local SPCA; and they will not be bred. Thankyou again for stating the realities on breeding guinea pigs, and the importance of saving a life.

I would certainly be a permanent home for some of these pigs. im currently building a 3 X 14 grid cage (or more.. we're not positive on how many grids can fit on a wall we have) and wouldn't enjoy buying from a pet store when these are in need of a home.

All your guinea pigs are so sweet. It is sad that the owners let them go.. My daughter, who is 5 years old loves animals.  We have had small dogs (Pomeranians) as pets in the past and have had to give them away when we moved overseas. My husband thinks she is too young to care for a dog.  My daughter loves to hug and cuddle animals and is asking for a pet.  I am thinking maybe a guinea pig may be a good pet for her but would like advice on whether guinea pigs are appropriate pets for a gentle, animal loving 5 year old?  I have experience having hamsters as pets when I was 13.) I have fallen in love with a website.  This site is the best with its knowledge and aid to cage builders.  I'm current looking to expand Rockefeller's cage.  I have had my poor gp couped up in a small cage and its awful.  So, i will be splurging and buying my boy the biggest cage i can afford.  And who knows, maybe he will finally get a companion.  I want to thank this website for the great ideas. Greetings from New York City. My Palo Alto niece told me about your rescue operation. I think you're wonderful. Years ago I had two Guinea Pigs - Dov & Geula. They were sweethearts and every bit as good companions to me as are my three cats today. Keep up the good work.

I just bought me a cavy I think they are cute, I seen them when i first started showing rabbits back in the earlier 90's and I would like to know if any one is around the Idaho or Washington area that has them. It is unfortunant that i live in nebraska  or i would adopt acorn and eddy in a heart beat  i have 2 neutered males , a mom and her little girl  ,she was pregnate when i got her  ,an unexpected surprise but welcomed ,i gave her 4 brothers away .they live in a large cage in the winter where they get free run in an indoor pen i built and in summer live in a large hooded pen .Good luck  with your piggies

(Hershey)+(Vanilla) and vanilla might be pregnant and im goin to keep them all! but if not i have best friends who want to adopt a guniea pig! i have 2 other friends who have guinea pigs! i also had (Binki) but she died in November also that week my best friends gerbil died and then the same week my friends hamster died very strange? and i think Malcoum and Eddie seem the sweetest!

I take great care of pigs.  I clean their cages twice a week, feed them grains, pellets, fresh fruits and vegetables,groom twice a day, and lots of love.  If I'm allowed I might adopt a piggie.

I am to young to adopt, but I will try to adopt things when I grow up, and I know these all will all be gone, but these will remind meh to adopt animals and not buy them when I grow up, and I know if I asked mah mom or dad they would say no, cause I might be getting a dog, and my mom won't allow them to be in the house, cause the only animal she alows are dogs, so I wished I could thoughand I like them ALL!

Beautiful piggies

I came over on Saturday morning, i fell in love with monty. Thank you for letting us come and visit the cuties, i am going to do what i can to make my little monty come home with me. My sister fell in love with little girl with no name. She has been thinking of names ever since. If we can take these little cuties home with us we would love them, so they are happy and healthy. We also gave each of our 4 guinea girls the medication for the mites. Thank you for that as well. I really enjoyed every guinea pig but my heart fell in love with monty and miss no name. I hope to see you soon.

Well my guinea pig (patches) is having babys.She gets bigger and bigger every day.She is brown black and white and the one who got her pregnate our other guinea pig (willy) is grey and white.I cant wait to see what they turn out to look like.I am 13 and i have been facinated w/ guinea pigs ever since my bunny died.I love little animals and i love the way they squeal at you when they need something.I just lost 2 guinea pigs in October ,cleo and wiggles.I baught cleo pregnate and that was a good thing too.Then like 2 months after we baught her she had splah.I still have splash.She is an absynian.She is really pretty. I just wanted to say every one should own one of these loving creatures that God put on earth.Thank you.

Hi I have had a guinea pig since I was a little girl. I know quite a lot about them. I bought a guniea pig from a pet store the other day, and the lady acted as if she barely even knew anything about guinea pigs. She told me it was a male and I looked and come to find out it's a female and she is expecting babies. So if anyone is looking to have a guinea pig and is actually going to take the time to raise one please let me know because I really do not want to take the babies back to that pet store because that lady doesn't know very much about guinea pigs. We are looking to expand our family after having our son's hamster home from his third grade classroom for the weekend. My three-year-old was heart broken when we had to return him on Monday. I am a Special Needs Teacher and have a guinea pig in the Kindergarten class I work in. We decided against a hamster because they do bite and escape so easily. Please let us know what you think. I am so impressed with all you've done with the site and rescues.  My oldest daughter wants to have a "guinea pig ranch" someday where poor little piggies can have another chance.  The type of cavies we own are a Peruvian, an Abyssinian,  and an American (all sows).

Our little Trixie Bell had her ears chewed off as a youngster too, but she was adorable none the less.  It doesn't stop them from having personality!

I have one Guinea pig and hope for two or three or four 'cause I know they ar much happier in pairs and groups. P.S I think what you are doing is fantastic truly fantastic! and I hope one day to do something similar with any type of animal to show my true love for them!

I think the guinea pigs are the best pets there are. They have such personalities and are just adorable. I have 2 myself and my daughter has one.

I have owned many guinea pigs, and I currently have 3.  They are the best pets and each have their own personalities.  All of my cavies were rescued-- and that makes them even more special!

... who just adopted a male...it's GREAT to know that you are recognizing the importance of spay/neuter....PLEASE, have your male neutered.  The spaying of a female piggy is far more dangerous/painful....also more costly ;/  

Now, you boy pig will need to be neutered by a REAL piggy vet...check around and ask how many neuters the proposed vet has successfully completed...a lot of vet's have ego's that won't admit to NOT knowing about the special needs of cavies :(

I'm thinking that Cavy Spirit has a listing of veterinarians that are cavy experts......please check this out!!

hi we have 3 pigs and love them. we have raised several over the years, our last set 2 males just passed away after having them for 7 years. the set before them passed away, the parents after having dad 10 and mom was 8 had a few litters but they were small and we kept a few and gave a few away to friends who had them until they passed away also after living long lives 7-11 years. Our new set is about 1 year and had one baby. My children in school are learning about the importance of good pet care and how much responsiblity it takes to raise them. I think this is important for kids to know so we don't have problems, with ANY UNWANTED PETS

btw, what type of GP is Charlotte? she looks like an abby from the pictures. it's been a few years since i had an abby. My Baby is a Texel so I think I'll be able to handle another long hair piggie. Peanut is a short smooth hair so he's low maintenance. btw, i thnk this is a great site to introduce people who will be first time GP owners!

How old is Charlotte? since she is spayed... would it be ok for her to live with 2 other males? Peanut is 4.5 yrs and Baby is 3 months. They are not neutered though... so i'm not sure if it would be a good idea to have a girl pig around.

hi! ever since i was a kid im used to having a pet like dogs, rabbits, cats, fish and hamsters. i just came from Phils. last year and had a pet hamster she passed away just last week. im very interested in adopting a pet quinea pig from you. i have looked at the pictures and i fell in love with precious. she's adorable and pretty! i live in San Jose area please up date me if she is still available.

I enjoyed your site very much.  I do feel the need to point out that the petsmart in Windor, ON Canada takes wonderful care of their piggies, never stocking more than 6 at a time and they only carry females.  The staff is VERY knowldegable and they require a non-refundleble food purchace with every small animal.   It shows that not all large pet stores abuse their small pets!  To the ones that do, shame on you!!!  Thank you for supporting adoption vs. breeders.....keep up the good work!!

I just heard about you guys from a Pet Food store because of the Hollister Rescue.  I'm so glad there is a guinea pig rescue in the bay area now!  When I was in college, I wanted to get involved with one, however the only one I could find in the state of California was a Rabbit and Guinea Pig Rescue in the San Diego area, which was too far away for me to do anything to help.  So glad you are here!  Thank you for all of your work in saving the lives of all of these wonderful little piggies!
