Paintings You don't need to be a full-fledged artist in order to enjoy painting! Myself, I graduated in Modern Languages and never took an art lesson in my whole life, but I love to mess around with acrylics... it's relaxing, and rewarding, too, since every completed project is a huge satisfaction for me, however small the accomplishment!
I mainly paint on rocks and feathers, because they're cheaper than canvas, and not so intimidating... and besides, they have a natural texture and colour I can use to enrich my work. I will probably try painting on other surfaces in the future, as my technique gets better... Date(s): August 24, 2003. 1 - 2 of 2 Total. Shared |

Painted rocks Rock painting as a form of art was originally brought to the world by Lin Wellford, author of a bunch of wonderful books about turning simple pebbles and stones into animals, flowers, buildings etc. I love this hobby, since it's inexpensive and fancyful... please be my guest and look at my rocks!
If you like them, you might want to search for them on eBay... I'll be selling them from time to time. Or you can contact me directly; I'll be glad to portrait your pet if you can give me a photo reference!
NOTE: it has been pointed out to me - thanks, Mike! - that rock painting as an art form has been around for millennia. I feel I should clarify that I meant the particular technique in which the whole rock is painted to look like the subject (trompe-l'oeil), as opposed to simply painting the thing _on_ the rock, as you would on any flat surface. Sorry for the confusing description! |

Painted feathers (July 23, 2002)Painting on feathers (and on many other materials - like spoons, cow skulls, saw blades...) was first experimented by the artists gathered around the Rockpainters mailing list, who were getting bored with decorating only rocks and pebbles!
There are no books about feather painting, so it's a technique that is basically acquired through trial and error... many people use different tricks for cleaning, preparing, painting and sealing their feathers; I usually stick to acrylics (cheap and reliable!).
If you like my feathers, you may want to check for them on eBay... or drop me a line in my Guestbook if you wish to ask for a special commission! |
