I was given a nice slab of maple in which I found a Chinese Dragon! Carved in 4 days in my studio near Commercial Drive in Vancouver in February of 2012.
A silent look at the carving out of two giraffes from a single piece of Douglas Fir.
July 2010 at Campbell River's Annual "Transformations on the Shore" (www.crshorelinearts.ca)
I took home 1st Place in the Semi-Pro category and was voted "People's Choice"!
A couple in Surrey had a huge dead Douglas Fir which needed to come down. Instead of removing the whole thing, they left about 15 feet of stump for me to carve out a couple of dragons.
Each year Campbell River hosts a Driftwood Carving Contest. I entered into the amateur category as this was my first time carving with a chainsaw and I won first prize!
