I am not a large scale breeder.
I do not breed every year.
I do not always have puppies available.
Many times I have people call me up looking for a puppy but am unable to help them as I only breed when I need to, either for myself or for a fellow breeder friend.
My dogs and my puppies all get the best veterinary care before, during, and after breeding and birth. Health testing is also part of my breeding program. It helps to screen out potential genetic problems that can pop up in the breed.
As a breeder I am particular about where I place my puppies, I want the best for them. If I feel a particular buyer will not be able to properly care for one of my puppies I will not sell them a puppy. I also make all my buyers fill out a "Puppy Questionnaire" as a start to getting to know them. In conjunction, I only sell my puppies on contracts and I require future contact and updates from all my puppy buyers. The reason I do this is to make certain that a particular breeding produced a good litter, one that compliments the breed. Without contact later in the puppy's lives I can't know how they turned out, if there are any medical or temperament problems showing up in the line, or what kind of conformation I am putting out.
I look for health, temperment, conformation, and drive in the puppies I produce. Not only do I want my puppies to contribute to the betterment of the breed but I also want my pups to make good family members for the homes they go to.
All of my terriers do a variety of things including Flyball, Terrier racing, Go-to-Ground, Weight Pull, and recently Dock Diving, as well as into the Conformation ring and being loving members of our family.
Our JRTs do not hunt the field but they do a good job of hunting our backyard. They have sought out and conquered prey such as rabbits, squirrels, mice, opossum, birds, and even the occasional toad. One of their FAVORITE things to hunt are moles! Even though these little terriers are naturally hunting dogs, they are suited to do many things.
PLEASE NOTE :
The drive these small terriers have, that makes them such great working & hunting dogs, is NOT something just anyone is prepared to live with. It is THIS DRIVE that tends to make this breed UNSUITABLE for the average family. It takes a special person to can deal with the quirks and sometimes the insanity of this breed. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE research this breed completely before making the decision to get one. The most common reason for this breed to be surrendered to a shelter is because the owners were NOT prepared for the energy level, drive, and the will to hunt that this breed has.
