Every breed of dog has health issues, and rat terriers are no exception.
The health testing of our current adult breeding dogs appears in this album.
OFA Health testing rules require that a dog be one year of age for cardiac and patellas testing, so our younger dogs will appear in this album once they reach their first birthday, go to our vet for a physical exam, and the OFA paperwork is submitted.
Spring High Rat Terriers began OFA-certified health testing in 2003 for cardiac and patellas (kneecaps). We have been doing health testing ever since.
On October 15, 2009 the University of Missouri developed a genetic DNA test for Primary Lens Luxation (PLL) for all breeds of dogs. PLL is a very serious and painful genetic condition affecting the lens of the eye that can lead to blindness. At Spring High, we only breed DNA-tested PLL Clear/Normal dogs and their PLL Clear/Normal offspring, designated as PLL CBP (PLL Clear By Parentage).
