"Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, 2016, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Dr. Howard K. Batson, senior pastor, First Baptist Church, officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd. John was born in Dumas, TX on November 3rd, 1944. His parents were Carl and Margaret Weidling. Growing up, John set numerous records at Avondale Elementary, was always the team captain, and played quarterback through his high school career. He graduated from Tascosa High school in 1963 and then received a scholarship to University of Texas at Austin and later went to play quarterback and linebacker for UT. John was a charismatic character, he handed two dollars bills out to make you smile, wished everyone good luck before a movie started, and would give away everything he owned if someone was in need. Everyone considered him their best friend. He was everyone’s best friend. He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Weidling. He was survived by, a son, Kristopher Weidling and wife Jennifer, and their children Madison and Brooklyn, of Raleigh, NC. A daughter, Sarah Bledsoe and husband Kirk, and their child Jonathan Weidling of Tulsa, OK. A son Samuel Weidling and fiancée Ashley Edwards, of Amarillo, TX. He adored his sisters. Judy Heath and husband Tim of Amarillo, Carla Berry and husband Woodie of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Jana Johnson and husband Van, of San Antonio, TX. He had numerous nieces and nephews who thought he was the greatest Uncle that ever could be. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Naomi Brack Scholarship Fund, Amarillo College Foundation, P.O. Box 447, Amarillo, TX 79109, or a charity of your choice.
