Leonard Jack Kelly Edit
Don Craghead kindly sent me the website to Jack’s obituary so am sharing.
Leonard Jack Kelly (Jack), of Boise, Idaho went to be with his Savior on July 9, 2024, surrounded by family.
Jack was born in Windover, Utah on July 28, 1945, to Joyce Ann (Johnson) Kelly and Aubry Jack Kelly, beginning a life filled with love, dedication, and selflessness.
After Jack's parents divorced, Jack and his mother eventually settled in Amarillo, Texas. Joyce married Raymond Profitt and in 1960 gave Jack a brother, Richard Mark Profitt.
Following graduation from Tascosa High School in 1963, Jack served in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1971. He lived in Amarillo, Texas and had a successful career at Texaco for most of his life.
He married Linda Sue Benson in 1965, and they raised three sons, Gregory Jack Kelly, Kevin Scot Kelly, and Douglas Alan Kelly, in Amarillo. Jack coached his boys' sports teams and worked tirelessly behind the scenes to provide for his family, never seeking recognition or reward. Jack's coaching didn't stop on the sports field. He was a teacher, mentor, and role model for his sons, shaping their minds and character with kindness, patience, and unwavering support. His unconditional love was a constant presence in their lives, a foundation that allowed them to grow into confident, compassionate, and capable individuals.
Jack and his family relocated to Oregon in 1986, where Jack continued his career in Portland, Oregon, until his retirement in 2001. After Jack retired, he and Linda divorced, and he spent several years working with his son Kevin in the Portland area and caring for his mother.
Jack and his mother moved to Boise in 2010. Jack was happy to escape the rainy weather in Portland, and he loved living in Boise. He joyfully and proudly served his family in every aspect of life and never missed an opportunity to support his family or send a birthday card. His grandsons called him Poppy, and he was close with all 6 of his grandsons. He went out of his way to attend his grandsons' sporting events and school activities, and he cared for two of his grandsons, Carson and Cooper, after school for 9 years.
In Boise, Jack also became a close member of the Conrad family, and they loved him as a member of their own. In the summers, he spent a lot of time at the family cabin near Sun Valley and enjoyed fishing, soaking up the sun, and laughing with the Conrad family.
Jack spent most weekends with his family and could always be counted on to supply the cheesecake, ham, watermelon, and deviled eggs at family events. Jack always insisted on doing the dishes after dinners. Jack loved playing board games, giving Queen Anne cherries and Lifesavers every Christmas, and being surrounded by family.
Jack was the best of the best - an incredible human being, devoted father, loyal friend, and selfless giver. His faith in Jesus and his love for his family brought him contentment and joy through every season of his life. He was always ready to lend a helping hand, offer advice, and provide a listening ear. And, of course, who could forget his garage - a treasure trove of tools and other supplies that seemed to have what you needed almost every time.
As we look at Jack's family today, we see the fruits of his labor. His kids are now grown with kids of their own, along with great grandchildren, carrying on Jack's legacy of love, hard work, and family values. He built a life with them filled with laughter, tears, and memories that will be passed down for generations to come. Jack is survived by his sons, Greg Kelly (wife Kristy), Kevin Kelly (wife Jodee), Doug Kelly (wife Trudy); his grandsons, Trent Kelly (wife Clara), Blake Kelly (wife Lora), Cam Kelly, Carson Kelly, Cooper Kelly, and Mason Kelly; and his great-grandchildren, Judah Gregory Kelly, and Lillian Joy Kelly.
Jack's story is a reminder that the most selfless acts often go unnoticed but have the greatest impact.
A private celebration of life will be held on Jack's birthday - July 28th.
