"Richard "Dick" Frank Khoury, 66, of Amarillo died Sunday, Aug. 29, 2010. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in St. Andrew's Episcopal Church with the Rev. Clifton Mann and the Rev. Joe Mann officiating. Arrangements are by Schooler Funeral Home, 4100 S. Georgia St. Richard "Dick" Khoury was born July 8, 1944, to Arthur and Dorothy Khoury in Lebanon, Pa. He attended Tascosa High School and graduated in 1963, where he broke the track record. He attended Amarillo College and Hiram State College in Scottsbluff, Neb., where he graduated with a business degree. Dick also served as a tanker for the U.S. Marine Corps for a few years. Dick was a third-generation family member to carry on the Khoury name and reputation while working closely with his father, Arthur Khoury Jr., and his uncle, Jim Khoury. He developed a love and passion for art that lasted throughout his entire life. He enjoyed expressing himself through his own paintings. Over the years, Dick became a highly respectable art dealer and appraiser. Dick's vast knowledge of fine art and quality rug workmanship was well- known and respected in the Amarillo area for more than 50 years. He was the Panhandle's only certified Oriental rug appraiser for many years, ranking as the top scorer. He has also been recognized as a national expert in appraisal of fine art. Dick was a member of the Oriental Rug Appraisers Association of America and Oriental Rug Retailer's of America. Dick was passionate, intellectual, giving, caring, sentimental and a romantic man. There was not a time that he was not willing to share his passions. Dick loved life and enjoyed traveling around the world, especially to his favorite beaches. He had a wonderful sense of humor and cherished the little things in life, like being a father to Jillian and Taylor, sitting at the breakfast table and sharing his knowledge with his daughters. Dick played poker, was a romantic at heart, danced in the living room regularly and would never hesitate to give family and friends a hard time. Outside of his love for his friends and family, he had an avid love for racing. He drove the No. 14 sprint car at the Amarillo Speedway for 10 years. He later enjoyed NASCAR, riding Harleys, golfing, playing tennis, shooting fireworks off year-round, and snow skiing. He loved to entertain by cooking gourmet meals, with many of them specializing in his Lebanese culture. He was known for his admiration of the tropics, the beach, and Hawaiian shirts. Dick never ceased to amaze us with his strength, generosity, good taste and charisma. He is loved, admired, respected by many and will be dearly missed. The family would like to express the deepest thanks to the doctors and nurses of Triumph and BSA Hospital, and Medical City Hospital of Dallas. We are grateful for the kindness and care in the past year from many special friends, especially Phyllis, George and Juli. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Edward Khoury. Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Lee Khoury; two daughters, Jillian Ferrell Dieckman and husband Curt of Kansas City, Mo., and Taylor Louise Khoury; a sister, Sandy Blandford of Amarillo; two nieces, Shelly McGee and husband Mark and children, Maggie, Justin and Mason, and Mistie Allison and husband Brian, all of Amarillo; and his group of exceptionally close friends. Visitation will be today from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials be to St. Andrew's Episcopal School, 1515 S. Georgia St., Amarillo, TX 79102.
