A tour of our new kennel
We have just started working on our new kennel/barn. I thought it would be neat to show our progress as we go. We decided to have a "Barn Raising" party with our friends and family. The barn is scheduled to go up next weekend..Aug 24th & 25th.

This is the barn we are building
Except, the dog runs will be under the overhang.  We will not have a door in the middle like that.

The start
This is the pad to the barn.  It will be a 36x36 barn with 5-5x15 dog runs on one side and 3 horse stalls on the other.  The dog runs will go where the drain rock is piled.

Just another shot..
We decided to go with Pea Gravel for our dog runs.  We have read and heared that it is much better for the dogs feet.  Keeps them nice & tight.

Our kennels will have multiple layers of material to help with the drainage and the waste.  We Dug down to the clay and layed a layer of visqueen so the dirt won't come up and the urine won't go down.  We put a layer of drain rock and than 5 rows of drain pipe.  After, we put more drain rock down for drainage.  We will than put a layer of mesh wire so the dogs can't dig.  We will put cement blocks around to lay the Kennels on top and than proceed with the Pea Gravel.  I think this system will work well.
