Concerns and work arounds in the use of off the shelf extraction solvents. Last update 26 July 2006
"There is little point in using any solvent other than acetone as acetone is cheap, available, relatively safe and Salvinorin A is very soluble in acetone. Acetone is available from some DIY shops and fiber-glass suppliers. Naptha is a petroleum derivative and Salvinorin A is NOT soluble in naptha but wax/lipids are so it is used to clean the extract. In the UK, you can use pure White-Spirit (relatively safe), Naptha based lighter fluids (possibly too volatile to be safe), clear Paraffin lamp oils, or Coleman fuel (very expensive lamp oil). Some of these are less volatile than others and so take longer to evaporate. They all work very well as a solvent for wax." --Ian, 12/09/06
