STEPHANIE ANDERSON | Home > PROMISED LAND Litter:SOLANA/SEREN PUPS
PROMISED LAND Litter:SOLANA/SEREN PUPS
DUE DATE:  MAY 30, 2007
BORN:  MAY 31, 2007
Approximately 36% DECKER BLOODLINE

We have anticipated another Lani litter for quite some time now.  Her first, the MAGI LITTER, with Starr is now 2 1/2 years old and they are big, healthy, happy adults that are a part of wonderful families who spoil and love them very much.

We are now preparing for the arrival of her second litter with UKC CH BLUEGK'S SPLENDOR OF  SEREN @ SH.  This pairing is an exciting one for us. Lani is approximately 78% Decker line out of Sycamore Flats Tuffy and Sycamore Flats Jackie. She is a heavily boned and muscled specimen that still maintains a feminine look that we like.  She is 17.5 inches at the withers and a lean 26.5 pounds.  She is a sweet, attentive and loyal girl, but is not lacking at all in prey drive and natural athleticism (and rattie goofiness).  SEREN is one of my favorite boys, as he is a fun guy in the SHOW RING (just one more win to be a Grand Champion), is a calm and even tempered, loving boy, but who is very protective of his people and pack (has a very focused, serious side).  Of all of the dogs at Sierra's Heaven, Seren is the FASTEST and most AGILE.  He is also the most welcomed to sleep in his "Mommy's" bed.

We will be expecting large puppies (not likely to finish under 16 inches or 24 pounds), BLACK TRI and possiby APRICOTS in the PIEBALD pattern, with a chance of REDS or TAN SABLES in the mix as well.  These pups will carry apricot and chocolate (and a possible rainbow from Seren's genetics) and we are anitcipating nice bone, structure and offspring that we believe will have show potential and performance potential, yet will be willing and able to give squirrels and other vermin a run for their money (and keep new families' laps and beds warm).  We may get the bonus of IRISH TICKING like daddy's, CALICO from mommy's side of the family and we expect ERECT ear carriage, but no guarantees there for sure.

All puppies will be on hold for at least 8 weeks, after we have made our picks.  Pups will be available to travel to their new homes after they reach 12 weeks and have had ample time to learn from their mom, littermates, and pack.  Sierra's main job is to assure that each is well socialized to children, so that they are ready for anything at the time of placement. Sierra is VERY GOOD with the pups and is essentially given Carte Blanche to interact and care for them at  will from the time of their births.  This will be Sierra's THIRD litter (more about Sierra on the home page).

We will assist prospective new puppy owners in making appropriate selections based on puppy abilities and temperaments.  All prospective new owners will be screened for appropriateness by Puppy Application, which is available on request.  All puppies placed in pet homes will be spayed/neutered prior to placement.

By the time of placement, all puppies will be crate trained, microchipped, have had at least 2 sets of vaccines, multiple dewormings, will be litter trained and will be well on their way to being housebroken.  The babies will also have had some early experience with water play, swimming and conformation show training.  In addition, the pups will also have had at least a couple of sessions with a frisbee/agility trainer friend, who will help to assess their early readiness and potential for performance success.

All of our offspring are born and raised indoors as family members and we expect that in their new homes, they will continue to have the kind of care and inclusion that they have come to expect during their time with us.  We at Sierra's Heaven, spend an inordinate amount of time assuring the perfect placement for each of our puppies.  Prospective Puppy Families will be required to sign a contract and to be aware of their responsibilities as owners/buyers and of our lifetime responsibilities as breeders/sellers.  It is not possible for you to ask us too many questions at any point in the process.  As owners of Sierra's Heaven pups, you will always be considered family.  Current owners will be happy to share their experiences and I will be happy to put you in contact with them.  Hundreds of photos of past puppies are available in litter albums.

********************************

The story of Abraham begins when God tells him to leave his homeland, promising Abraham and his descendants a new home in the land of Canaan. (Gen. 12). This is the land now known as Israel, named after Abraham's grandson, whose descendants are the Jewish people. The land is often referred to as THE PROMISED LAND because of God's repeated promise (Gen. 12:7, 13:15, 15:18, 17:8) to give the land to the descendants of Abraham.  The land is described repeatedly in the Torah as a good land and "a land flowing with milk and honey" (e.g., Ex. 3:8).

The Land of Israel is a special place.  And because it's a special place, a spiritually sensitive place, a place of tremendous potential, it's also a place where one has to behave in a special manner.  God's people will only live and prosper in their homeland if they maintain their relationship with God and carry on the mission of Abraham:

"It will be that if you hearken to My commandments that I command you today...then I shall provide rain for your land in its proper time...that you may gather your grain, your wine and your oil...and you will eat and be satisfied. Beware for yourselves, lest your heart be seduced and you go astray...the ground will not yield its produce and you will be swiftly banished from the goodly land that God gives you." (Deut. 11: 13-17)

Abraham and his wife, Sarah, were far into their late years and had not had a child together, as Sarah was barren.  After Abraham had a child, Ishmael, with Sarah's maid Hagar (an Egyptian), it was soon clear that Ishmael would not carry out the covenant God made with Abraham.  God tells Abraham, who is then 99, that Sarah, who is 90, is going to become pregnant. And this is how Isaac is born and the mission begins. [A rivalry will exist between Sarah and Hagar and their children, Isaac and Ishmael. Because of this rivalry Hagar and Ishmael will be sent away. This rivalry carries on for generations and is viewed as the metaphysical root of the modern rivalry between the descendants of Isaac (the Jews) and Ishmael (the Arabs)(3)]

Before Sarah conceives God tells Abraham:

"Your wife Sarah will bear you a son, and you will name him Isaac. I will establish My covenant with him as an eternal covenant to his descendants after him. And as for Ishmael ... I have blessed him and I will make him fruitful and will increase him exceedingly. He will become the father of twelve princes and I will make him into a great nation. But I will establish My covenant with Isaac who Sarah will bear to you at this time next year." (Genesis 17:19-21)

SHILOH - female .55 lb (8.8 oz)
3. SHILOH - female .55 lb (8.8 oz)
UKC CHAMPION SIERRA'S HVN SPIRIT OF SHALOM

SOLD

SHILOH is generally understood as denoting the Messiah, "the peaceful one," as the word signifies (Gen. 49:10).  Another translation is “he who is to be sent.”

Shiloh, a place of rest, a city of Ephraim, "on the north side of Bethel."  The portable shrine that Moses built in the wilderness was stationed at Shiloh from the time of the Conquest (Josh. 18:1-10), where it remained during all the period of the judges till the ark of the covenant fell into the hands of the Philistines and the city came under destruction in 1104 B.C.

Psalm 78:60 (NIV) "He abandoned the tabernacle of Shiloh, the tent he had set up among men."

"No spot in Central Palestine could be more secluded than this early sanctuary, nothing more featureless than the landscape around; so featureless, indeed, the landscape and so secluded the spot that from the time of St. Jerome till its re-discovery by Dr. Robinson in 1838 the very site was forgotten and unknown." It is referred to by Jeremiah (7:12, 14; 26:4-9) five hundred years after its destruction.

SHILO is also Israel's First Capital.  The official, but currently-defunct, site for Tel Shilo.  This communicates the importance the site as a resting place for the tabernacle.

Beersheba "SHEBA"-female .45 lb (7.2 oz)
4. Beersheba "SHEBA"-female .45 lb (7.2 oz)
UKC CHAMPION SIERRA'S HEAVEN QUEEN OF SHEBA

NOT AVAILABLE

Be'er-Sheba

Beersheba's name is derived from the Hebrew words pronounced beer, meaning well, and sheba, meaning seven. Hence the name of the town meant the seventh well or well of seven.

Until the days of David and Solomon, "from Dan to Beersheba" was the customary designation for the entire area of the Land of Israel, Beersheba being regarded as the extreme southern point of the country.

The area of Beersheba is first mentioned in The Bible as the place where Hagar went after she was sent away from Abraham because of family conflicts with Abraham's wife Sarah. Hagar was Abraham's Egyptian-born concubine who had a son (see Ishmael) by Abraham when Sarah thought that she herself was unable to have children - a commonly accepted practice of the time. Then, when Sarah did have a son herself (see Isaac), she could no longer tolerate Hagar's presence, so she forced Hagar to leave. Abraham reluctantly agreed to Sarah's demand.  Hagar was not abandoned by God however. He spoke to her directly and helped her. Ishmael went on to become very successful, becoming a great nation from his descendants - the Arab peoples of today. He returned for his father Abraham's funeral at Hebron where he and Isaac placed his body in what has become known today as the "Tomb of The Patriarchs."

The actual well of Beersheba was apparently dug by Abraham's servants, and was a place of conflict when Abimelech's servants attempted to seize it. To avoid conflict, Abraham and Abimelech made a treaty there in which the name of the town Well of Seven, with an extended meaning of Well of The Oath, was established (Genesis 21:31).

Other notable events of Beersheba: Jacob had his Stairway To Heaven dream in the area, and later God spoke to Jacob there when the Israelites were on their way to Egypt, where they would remain for over 400 years in eventual slavery before the Exodus (Genesis 46:1). The prophet Elijah sought refuge there after wicked Jezebel ordered him killed (1 Kings 19:3). Samuel's two corrupt sons who served as judges there caused the Israelites to demand their first king (see Kings of Israel and Judah), which they got in Saul (1 Samuel 8:1-3, 9:1-2,17 is explained by the wells and by the seven ewes which Abraham set aside as a sign of the alliance (in Hebrew, be'er well; sheva, oath or seven).

PETRA - female .55 lb (8.8 oz)
5. PETRA - female .55 lb (8.8 oz)
SIERRA'S HEAVEN UPON THIS ROCK

SOLD:

PETRA, (Greek "rock"), is located in a valley about three-fourths of a mile wide and one mile long, about fifty miles south of the Dead Sea and 170 miles southwest of modern Amman.  At an elevation of 2,700 feet, the city was accessible from the west by ascending the Wadi Musa from the Arabah.  It is surrounded by nearly impassible mountains, except for a mile long, narrow crevice called the "Siq," which provided an excellent defense for the city.

Petra was the home of the cave-dwelling Horites (Horim; cave-dwellers; Genesis 14:6) driven out by the Edomites (Deuteronomy 2:12). The site became an Edomite stronghold, or capital, called Sela (or Selah), meaning "rock" (see Genesis 36: 8). This was the region known as Mt. Seir.

The Bible does not mention Petra, although it may have been the Sela noted as a border of the Amorite territory (Judg 1:36) and as a city defeated by Amaziah, the king of Judah (2 Kgs 14:7).  Petra was the capital of the Nabataeans who controlled the northwestern part of Arabia and the Transjordan from the end of the fourth century B.C. to A.D. 105, when the Romans conquered them.

The city is noted for the Nabataean and Roman buildings and tombs carved in the dark red sandstone cliffs.  Aretas, king of Petra (9 B.C. to A.D. 40), ruled Damascus at the time of Paul’s conversion and sought to arrest the apostle there (2 Cor 11:32-33).

A lingering fascination of some Christians with Petra comes from speculation of a few Christian groups that the site will someday become a "place of safety" where a small number of  end-time Christians will escape the Great Tribulation (Revelation 3:10; 12:14-17 when taken with Daniel 11:31-12:1; Matthew 24:16-21; Luke 21:21-23; Mark 12:14-17). Some confuse Petra with Pella. The latter apparently served as a refuge for Jerusalem Christians in the 66-70 CE Roman war with Jewish zealots in the Holy Land.

ZORAH - female .50 lb (8 oz)
6. ZORAH - female .50 lb (8 oz)
SIERRA'S HVN NAZARITE'S FAITH
SOLD

Zorah or Zoreah , in the Bible, was a town in ancient Palestine, the modern Zora, Israel, is West of Jerusalem.

Zorah was the home of Samson. The town was also called Zareah, and its inhabitants were known as Zorathites or Zareathites

SAMSON:  Samson was very strong. The Lord made him strong, and he used his strength against the Philistines, who were enemies of Israel. Zorah, the little town which was his home, was near the edge of the Philistine country. But first an angel came and told the mother and father that Samson would be born. He told what kind of child he would be and what they must do for him. The first time that the angel came, only the mother was there, but he came again and both the mother and the father saw him. The father's name was Manoah.

The child should be a Nazarite to God all his life. The thing which you would have noticed first about a Nazarite was his long hair, for his hair must not be cut or shaved. There were other rules which the Nazarite must keep. He must drink neither wine nor strong drink, nor eat grapes or anything from the vine. He must not come near to things which were considered unclean.

Samson should be a Nazarite. The angel said that no razor must come on his head, and he told his mother also that she must drink neither wine nor strong drink and eat nothing from the vine and no unclean thing.

What could Manoah do for the one who had brought them this good news? He wished to get ready a meal for him, but the angel told him instead to make an offering to the Lord. He did so, kindling the fire upon the rock and putting upon it his offering of a kid and meal or flour, and the angel ascended in the flame. Then Manoah knew that it was an angel of the Lord who had come to them. The angel's words came true, and Samson was born.

Athens "ATHENA"-female .6 lb (9.6 oz)
7. Athens "ATHENA"-female .6 lb (9.6 oz)
SIERRA'S HVN SERENE ACROPOLIS

AVAILABLE:

ATHENS was named in honor of the goddess Athena.

"Athens is five miles inland from its prot of Piraeus, which is on the Saronic Gulf, an arm of the Aegea Sea stretching fifty miles between Attica and the Peloponesus..."

The Romans conquered Athens in 146 B.C. They were lovers of everything Greek, and under their rule Athens continued as the cultural and intellectual center of the world. Rome also left the city free politically to carry on her own institutions as a free city within the empire. When Paul came to Athens, it had long since lost its empire and wealth. Its population probably numbered no more than ten thousand. (Longenecker 1981:473)

PAUL CHALLENGES THE GREEKS
Acts 17:16-34:  In Athens, Paul was immediately distressed over how many idols were in the city. The men who escorted Paul brought him to Athens and then left with instructions for Silas and Timothy to join him as soon as possible. Acts 17:15  Paul immediately began speaking in the synagogues and reasoning with the Jews and God-fearing Greeks. Many began to think that Paul was advocating foreign gods. Paul was brought to the Areopagus (meeting place) and questioned about what exactly he was teaching. Paul began to speak to them by talking about one of their objects of worship which was dedicated "to an unknown god."

Paul began to tell them about a God that does not live in temples and doesn't need to be served by man, this God is the creator of life. He told them of God's planning of the human race and of man's need to seek him. He told them of God's intangibility and of their need to repent of making graven images, for they would be judged by God's appointed one. When Paul began telling them of the resurrection of the dead, many sneared and didn't believe, but others invited him back to speak again. A few men became believers, among them being Dionysius and a woman named Damaris.

CAIRO - male .65 lb (10.4 oz)
8. CAIRO - male .65 lb (10.4 oz)
SI'S HVN TRIUMPHANT PREMIERE

AVAILABLE:

Cairo (Arabic: القاهرة transliteration: Al-Qāhirah), which means "The Vanquisher" or "The Triumphant" or "The Victorious", is the capital city of Egypt.

The Cairo Genizah (Alden Oreck):

The 1896 discovery of the Cairo Genizah was one of the greatest Jewish treasures ever found. It has provided the world with the some of the most important documents of the medieval Middle East.

A genizah, Hebrew for "hiding place," is a depository for sacred Hebrew books that are no longer usable. Since they cannot be thrown out because they contain God's name, these documents, often called shemot or "names," are put in a genizah. Genizot are usually found in the attic or basement of a synagogue, but can also be in walls or buried underground. Non-religious documents can be put there as well.

The best-known genizah, the Cairo Genizah, is located in the Ezra Synagogue in Fostat (Old Cairo, Egypt), built in 882. German poet, traveler and book dealer Simon von Geldern appears to be the first modern visitor to the Cairo Genizah in 1753. Although he mentioned it in his 1773 book, The Israelites on Mount Horeb, von Geldern never actually examined its contents because of the local superstition that claimed disaster would befall anyone who touched the sacred pages. A little over a century later, in 1864, Jacob Saphir, the scribe of the Ashkenazi community of Jerusalem visited the genizah, but again was turned away. Nevertheless, various pages were occasionally stolen or sold. In the late 19th century, Abraham Firkovich and scholar Albert Harkavy bought some leaves and brought them back to Russia. Firkovich, a Russian Karaite interested in piecing together the history of Karaite Jews, was more successful in obtaining documents at the nearby Karaite Genizah, also in Cairo, at the Karaite synagogue.

The importance of the Cairo Genizah became apparant in 1896, when two Christians brought some leaves to Solomon Schechter, who at the time was a professor of Talmudic and rabbinical literature at England's Cambridge University. Schechter recognized them as the Hebrew original "Book of Wisdom," ascribed to Ben Sira. The Book of Wisdom became part of the Christian biblical cannon (Ecclesiastics) when translated into Greek. Before its discovery in the Cairo Genizah, no known Hebrew version existed, some scholars even doubted its existence. Schechter led an expedition to Cairo where, over several painstaking months, he extracted thousands of pages from the genizah and took them to back to Cambridge. The sealed, dark room in the dry Egyptian climate allowed for the preservation the documents.

The discovery of the documents in the Cairo Genizah has been likened to the 20th century discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls. In addition to valuable Biblical and Talmudic documents, it gave a detailed picture of the economic and cultural life of the Middle Eastern and Mediterranean region over many centuries. No other library in the world possessed such an array of religious and private documents from the 10th to 13th centuries, when the Fatimid caliphs (10-12th centuries) and Ayyubid sultans (12th-13th centuries) ruled.

Many genizah documents have become a unique historical source for the Middle East, providing important information for Muslim and Christian scholars in addition to Jewish ones. The rich store of linguistic works shed light on Hebrew grammar and lexicology as well as a history of Arabic dialects.

Today, a large portion of the Cairo Genizah's documents are available at the University Library in Cambridge, where documents are under glass, bound in albums or placed loosely in boxes. Smaller collections are spread out across the world, in libraries in London, Oxford, Paris Frankfurt, Vienna, Budapest, Leningrad and Philadelphia. The Cairo Genizah has provided scholars with such an abundance of information that scores of books have been written on topics ranging from Jewish religious practices to the standard of living in medieval Egypt.

Ashkelon "ASH" - male .5 lb (8 oz)
9. Ashkelon "ASH" - male .5 lb (8 oz)
SIERRAS HVN STREETS OF ASHKELON

AVAILABLE:

Ashkelon,Israel, has one of the world's most beautiful coastlines, with white sandy beaches and spectacular Mediterranean views. The coast stretches to the northern border with Lebanon at Rosh Hanikra and south to the Gaza Strip. Just north of Gaza and 36 miles south of Tel Aviv is the southernmost stop for most tourists, the city of Ashkelon.

Like so many other places in Israel, Ashkelon is built upon the ruins of past civilizations. This was one of five Philistine city-states (along with Gath, Gaza, Ekron and Ashdod). The city also plays a role in biblical history as the place where Delilah cut Samson's hair to sap his strength (Judges XIV-XVI). Ashkelon was also a great trading center because it lay along the Via Maris, the route linking Egypt with Syria and Mesopotamia.

The city was first settled at the end of the third millennium B.C.E.  It was conquered by the Philistines in the second half of the 12th century. After the Israelite conquest of the rest of the area, the two peoples engaged in several hundred years of conflict. After King Saul was slain by the Philistines, David lamented:

Tell it not in Gath, publish it not in the streets of Ashkelon; lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, lest the daughters of the uncircumcised  triumph. (II Samuel 1:20)

Even after David defeated the Philistines in much of the rest of the country, he could not dislodge them from Ashkelon.

NOTE:  Israel Fact -- Archaeologists have unearthed a large cemetery for dogs in Ashkelon. They do not know the significance of this cemetry or why dogs would have merited this treatment.

CANAAN "Kenaan" - male .7 lb (11.2 oz)
10. CANAAN  "Kenaan" - male .7 lb (11.2 oz)
SOLD:

SIERRA'S HEAVENS PROMISED LAND

CANAAN:  The Hebrew Kenaan, denoting a person, occurs in the Old Testament as the name of one of Ham's sons

In the days when the trading Phoenicians held a prominent place, especially among the Canaanites, this word (Kena'ani), and even Canaan (e.g. Isaiah 23:8), got the signification of "merchant, trader."

THE LAND OF CANAAN
With a few exceptions the Biblical writers seem to indicate by this name at the least, the whole of Western or cis-Jordanic Palestine. It extends from the desert of Sin in the south to near Rohob and the entrance to Emath in the north (Numbers 13:3, 18; cf. 22). A more accurate demarcation of the land of Canaan is in Num., xxxiv, 3-12, and Ezech., xlvii, 15-20. For though the name does not occur in Ezechiel, the identity of the boundary lines is drawn there is not to be doubted. In either text the western boundary is formed by the Mediterranean, and the greater part of the eastern by the Dead sea and the lower course of the Jordan.

JERICHO "Ari" - male .6 lb (9.6 oz)
11. JERICHO "Ari" - male .6 lb (9.6 oz)
UKC CHAMPION SierrasHvn JERUSALEM TO JERICHO

NOT AVAILABLE:

Jericho (Ariha in Arabic) is the oldest inhabited town in the world, dating back more than 10,000 years. It lies 260 meters (853 feet) below sea level, making it the lowest town on earth. It is located 36 km east of Jerusalem, on the road to Amman and at the junction of the highway to Galilee.

Known as the "City of Palms", Jericho contains some of the world's most important historic sites and is frequently mentioned in the Bible.  From the lofty heights of Mount Nebo, Moses had a marvelous view of this ancient city. "Then Moses went up from the plains of Moab to Mount Nebo, to the top of Pisgah, which is across from Jericho. And the Lord showed him all the land of Gilead as far as Dan, all Naphtali and the land of Ephraim and Manasseh, all the land of Judah as far as the Western Sea, the South, and the plain of the Valley of Jericho, the city of palm trees, as far as Zoar." (Deut. 34:1-3).

Jericho was also the home town of Rahab the harlot (Joshua 2:1). Rahab is later listed in the genealogies of both King David of Israel and of our Lord (Matt. 1:5). The Hebrew writer tells us how that "By faith the WALLS OF JERICHO fell down after they were encircled for seven days. By faith the harlot Rahab did not perish with those who did not believe, when she had received the spies with peace." (Heb. 11:30-31).

Jesus' teaching concerning the Good Samaritan tells us about the man who "went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves" (Luke 10:30).

On a mount overlooking the Jericho oasis, excavations have uncovered settlements dating from 9000 BC and the Oldest Walled Town dating from the Neolithic period (7000 BC) yet discovered, a most unusual example of fortifications in that prehistoric age.

ARI earned his UKC CHAMPION TITLE at his second show on Saturday, June 28, 2008, in Clearwater, Florida, at age 12 months.
