Mr. Shipley,

One of Bill Shipley's friends at Berkeley, M.A.R. "Phil" Barker passed away in March.  While going through his slides -- I'm preparing a 'slide show' for a memorial event on May 5 -- I ran across several pictures of Bill.  Please contact me if you'd like copies.

I am the son of William D. Norman who was Addie B Shipley's son. I have been recreating our family tree and came across the web posting of your Father. I am so sorry to find out your Father had passed away. After Frank Shipley passed away we lost track of all of you in California. My Dad passed away in 1998. I met your dad in Lawton a couple o times when he visited Frank Shipley.
Hope to hear from you to get updates on family.

What a nice surprise. I hadn't seen a photo of the old house in Paynes Creek in ages. Probably isn't there anymore. We've met, though I was just an youngster and don't remmeber it. My Sister Delores remembers you. I recall hearing your name though. My father is Jerome Mankins. Maym is his/our Aunt (his mothers sister). Lena is my great grandmother. We used to spend a week or so there several times a year when I was growing up during the 50's. I can recall getting the crap beat out of me by Grama Lena in checkers while sitting on the front porch of that old house. She'd always stack the checkers up and point at them an laugh afterward. I noticed Mayms rooster Tweet is in one of the photos. He used to chase us kids around the house, and wasn't shy about attacking grownups also, so I'm sure you had a confrontation with him on more than one occassion. Last time I talked to Beverly, she told me one of her sons was learning the Maidu language from you, and that she tries to get down to see you perodically. Nice to know the language won't die. My Son ran across your book "The Maidu Indian Myths and Stories of Hanc'ibyjim" back in the 90's and bought me a copy. Brought a tear to my eye when I read the forward which mentions Maym and Lena. Well, Best wishes, and thanks for posting those photos. Dave
