Fire at St. Paul's, Pomaria (January 10, 2013)Here are some photos taken by various people on the morning of January 10, 2013 as St. Paul Lutheran Church in Pomaria, SC was burning. Please keep the congregation of St. Paul in prayer as they grieve the loss of their beautiful, historic church building. Fire broke out early in the morning, and initial reports are that the stone walls are still standing, but damage is very extensive.
Photos 42-88 were taken on Sunday, January 13, 2013 as the congregation and many friends from around the synod joined in worship on the front lawn of the church property. There were nearly 600 in attendance.
We know that many hearts are broken because of this loss. The Church, of course, is the people; but many generations of those people have been impacted by the ministry within the walls of these buildings. For now, please pray for God's comfort for our brothers and sisters in that place. |

Native American Partnership announcement (May 2012)A new partnership between United Methodists,Lutherans and American Indian- Native Americans was announced Wednesday, May 9 during a Partnership Announcement event for the ELCAUMC / SEJANAM American Indian-Native American Partnership (AINAP), held at the North Carolina United Methodist Conference Center in Garner, NC. This is considered to be a “historic first” in the Southeast, growing out of a full communion agreement adopted by the United Methodist Church (UMC) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church (ELCA) in 2009. The vision for the Native American Partnership between the ELCA Region 9 and the SEJ/UMC with SEJANAM is grounded in a shared missional passion and concern for ministries with the invisible indigenous Native American people of the Southeast, so by God’s grace we will not continue to ignore the basic needs and leadership gifts of Native people. |
