Noah The Water Carrier by Joe Lumer I enjoyed talking w/ Harry Lumer about the Old Country (Poland) and the history of the Yiddish language (I have a friend who performed in NYC in the Yiddish Theater, and he imbued me with an enthusiasm for all things Yiddish).
Harry was raised with Yiddish spoken in his family and his family's whole story is a fascinating and harrowing one. I used to love meeting his uncle Jack (a survivor of the camps) in the early mornings on Cagney & Lacey to open the 650 Spring Lot (Jack was the member of the family with the most enthusiasm for all things Hollywood).
Anyway, one time I gave Harry some books about Yiddish Children's Songs and the like once (I think he already had them, but was gracious enough to receive them with gratitude). In return, he gifted me with Joe Lumer's book (2006) "Noah the Water Carrier & Other Stories." It is very charming and evocative, and in Joe's memory I share some screen grabs from the Amazon page where you can buy Joe's book for yourself!
