The Metropolitan Business & Citizens Association (MBCA) will hold its 8th Annual Scholarship Foundation Awards Luncheon on Thursday, May 7, 2009, 12 Noon, at Trump Plaza Hotel/Casino. The MBCA Education Foundation will present Student Scholarships for students planning to continue their studies at an accredited higher education institution.
This year’s Keynote Speaker and Outstanding Educator Award recipient is Mr. Thomas Dowd, Executive County Superintendent of Atlantic County. Mr. Dowd has been in public education for close to 30 years as a teacher, administrator, and executive. As the Executive County Superintendent, Mr. Dowd is charged with contract reviews, monitoring school district fiscal accountability compliance, and assessing and determining the efficiency of regionalized school districts and shared services.
Scholarships will be awarded in the amount of $1,500. The number of awards is determined by the amount of funds available in the scholarship foundation. Criteria include that the individual be a resident of the greater Atlantic City region; and be accepted or returning to an accredited higher education institution and working towards a degree or certification.
MBCA also recognizes an area educator for their outstanding contributions to education. The Trump Entertainment Resorts Outstanding Educator Recognition Award is in the amount of a $1,500 grant and will be presented during the luncheon. The grant, made available only through the MBCA, is for the purpose of obtaining supplies, equipment or purchasing student incentives related to his/her teaching. This award goes to an individual who is making a difference in the development of his/her students by being a positive role model, demonstrating resourcefulness, and utilizing innovating teaching techniques. | Date(s): May 7, 2009.
