About Me
A few words about me
I am in the early stages of my venture into showing\raising quality Rat Terriers. I began showing in UKC Conformation shows in 2006.
I fell in love with the Rat Terrier breed when I met my best friends Rat Terrier, Archie, (often referred to as the “little man”). I had never heard of the breed and quickly became enamored by his endless charm. He was like no other dog. When he sadly passed on, I searched the internet for a replacement for my friend. During my search, I realized I was in a position in my life to have my own dog. My search became about finding a Rat Terrier to share my life with. My desire was to have a pet with which I could participate in various dog related activities such as Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Agility, Terrier Racing, etc.
This is when Bodie came into my life. Having little knowledge about how to raise a puppy I began researching how best to achieve this task. I quickly recognized the importance of socialization and introduced Bodie to 86 new people the first four weeks he was with me. Besides being a goofball, Bodie is a very well socialized boy. Unfortunately, he turned out to have some structural issues which prevented him from participating in the activities I planned. Sadly, no one can guarantee perfect health for any living creature. This is in God’s hands.
Out of my frustration came a deep desire to understand structure, health, movement, and breeding. I began researching on the Web, reading books on the subject, and attending Seminars on Structure. I soon realized the importance of producing a structurally well put together dog. My desire is to make a contribution to the overall health and well being of this wonderful breed and work towards improving the breed while producing dogs meeting the UKC Breed Standard.
I waited a year for my second Rat Terrier and was extremely careful in my selection. Armed with my newly obtained knowledge I chose Kindle from Desert High Rat Terriers. I have not been disappointed.
Desert High’s Blaze of Glory, a.k.a. Kindle, became a UKC Grand Champion within a year’s time. She is an outstanding specimen of the breed and a fabulous foundation dog.
As an added bonus, I befriended the Glaspey family and they have become dear friends and Mentors.
In 2009 Desert High's Strong Tower, a.k.a. Samson, joined the family as my foundation Stud. His first week-end showing he achieved his UKC Champion title. He is proving to be yet another fabulous example of the Rat Terrier breed. I feel blessed to own him.
Goals & thoughts on education and breeding dogs
My goal is to thoroughly enjoy my dogs and participate in various dog related activities such as Conformation, Obedience, Rally-O, Agility, Terrier Racing, Weight Pull, etc.
I have a love of learning and strive to continually increase my knowledge and expertise in the areas of Dogs, Rat Terriers, understanding the Breed Standard, Genetics, Structure, Movement, Conformation, Testing, and Training. The wealth of knowledge available and the people willing to share it is enormous.
I feel a structurally well put together dog in optimal health is capable of tackling any and all tasks its owner asks whether it be Conformation, performance sports, or simply going on vacation with the family. A healthy dog leads a longer, happier life which results in years of happiness for both the dog and its owner. Everyone wants their pets around for as long as possible and in the best of health.
