1979-1988 Gretzky's Edmonton Oilers
25. 1979-1988 Gretzky's Edmonton Oilers
This Album contains trading card and team issued postcard sets of the Wayne Gretzky led Edmonton Oilers of the 1980's. From when number 99 joined the NHL in 1979 to his shocking trade to the Kings in 1988, the Oilers would win 4 cups in 5 years and set offensive records that probably will never be matched. They scored an average of 4.77 goals per game for the decade and Gretzky would win 8 MVPs and 7 Scoring titles in his 9 years with the team. Other Hall of Fame contributors on the team were 2-time MVP Mark Messier, 600 goal scorer Jari Kurri, 3-time top Defenseman Paul Coffey, Glenn Anderson (4th in career playoff points) and ace goalie Grant Fuhr. I have included the 1988-89 Topps/O Pee Chee team set as it contains the last of Gretzky's Oiler cards as well as his first cards with the Kings--the end of an incredible era (though the team would win one more cup in 1989-90
without the Great One).

1970's Scotty Bowman Montreal Canadiens
26. 1970's Scotty Bowman Montreal Canadiens
This Album contains trading card and team issued postcard sets of the powerful Montreal Canadiens of the 1970's. Perhaps the deepest and most dominant team of all time, the Habs would win 6 Stanley Cups in 9 years, including 4 straight (1976-1979) to close the decade. Scotty Bowman would take over the defending cup champions in the 1971-72 season and helm them to 5 more cups before leaving the team after the 1978-79 season. The loss of Bowman, along with the retirements of Dryden, Lemaire and Cournoyer signaled the end of the Dynasty. Hall of Fame contributors on the team include: Guy Lafleur (3 scoring tiles, 2 MVPs and a playoff MVP), Larry Robinson (2 top defenseman awards and a playoff MVP), Ken Dryden (5 top goaltender awards and a playoff MVP), Yvan Cournoyer (1 playoff MVP award), Steve Shutt (led league w/60 goals in 1977), Jacques Lemaire (2 cup winning goals, playoffs scoring leader in 1979 and 8 cups in 12 years with the team), Guy Lapointe, Serge Savard, and Bob Gainey. HOFers Henri Richard, Jacques Laperriere, Jean Beliveau and Frank Mahovlich also contibuted to 2 cups in 1971 and 1973.

1970's Dallas Cowboys: America's Team
27. 1970's Dallas Cowboys: America's Team
This Album contains trading cards chronicling the Tom Landry-coached, Roger Staubach-led, Dallas Cowboys of the 1970's. The team was so popular that the sobriquet "America's Team", that NFL films titled their 1978 team recap, has lasted ever since. The Cowboys would appear in 5 Super Bowls in the decade, winning 2 of them, while providing thrills and entertainment on the field (and off---what with the Dallas Cheerleaders) that were unmatched. Staubach would retire in 1979 as the All Time NFL Passing Leader (changes in rules have made the modern passing game far more wide-open than in the 70's) and Tom Landry would ultimately coach the Cowboys for 29 years, winning 270 games (3rd All Time).
