Bergzabern A hotel, even though it may look like the hôtel de ville.
Bergzabern
Dörrenbach main street
Dörrenbach Corner tower of the fortified St. Martin's church. The 'lean-to' annex was once common enough, judging by all those telltale rafter holes in curtain walls and rock faces. Technically, a false truss roof. An outward pointing force vector is not cancel out. Zero tensile strength due to duck nested chords (the horizontal beams). First aid: a pocket mirror.
Dörrenbach The South-West tower.
Dörrenbach The selfsame tower as seen from inside the church yard.
Dörrenbach The city hall seen from the raised church yard.
Dörrenbach The pilgrim's chapel was closed. Fairy tales figurines only. Technically, Gaudi style (Roman mosaics wrapped around snowmen should cover it).
rural impressions Between Bergzabern and Kandel. Open country with daybreak shadow. (The small shadow is cast by the handlebar basket. I did not dismount.)
rural impressions Swiss army knife on the march.
rural impressions Lepus europaeus, there are still a few left.
rural impressions Medium sized bridge pylon on a tilled field
rural impressions Farmhouse and willow near Minfeld. The nearby brook should be the Dierbach.
rural impressions Slightly rolling country with rural service lane. Backdrop, Haardt. This is the Upper Rhine valley, screened with mountain ranges.
Wissembourg Former border checkpoint with unmanned custom house.
Wissembourg The mighty Peter and Paul church. It was once the church of the Benedictine abbey.
Wissembourg 'Shiva' tree (hatrack for leaves)
Wissembourg jutting out gargoyle
Wissembourg Ridge riders and pinnacles at any which angle. Vertigo inducing to some.
Wissembourg back street
Wissembourg West door to Moria. Watch your step. By memory, postern gate of the 'depreciated' Benedictine abbey, proximity of the Peter and Paul church.
Wissembourg The unavoidable 'salt house'. Sagging roof lines.
Wissembourg Jerome K. Jerome: Three tourists in the rain. Actually very little rain if any. - One look at the real estate prices, the display window of the 'Maison de Sel' office, readily explains why you can dispense with border guards.
Wissembourg The two towers of Peter and Paul. View from the town ramparts.
Wissembourg Fixer uppers at work. If church steeples were that easy.
