1 We will start by making the top cover of the box itself. Take your 1 sheet of designed 12 x 12 paper - and mark a dot with your pencil, in the middle for it's center point. (That's 6" in, and 6" down).
| 2 Fold to crease the middle.
| 3 Now fold the 2 bottom corners towards the middle where your dot was placed. Then fold in the top 2 corners as well.
| 4 Your project should now look like this. You are half way there... don't give up!!
| 5 Ok, now, you're going to fold in the sides. Each edge should fold directly into the mid section. But this is merely to create creases. Therefore, you're going to also fold in the top and bottom portion of your project next.
|
6 So, you unfold, and fold in the top and bottom, and then unfold again to reveal all the creases. You should see something like this!
| 7 You're going to now unfold EVERYTHING that you did, and your paper will look like this. Now, you're going to cut 4 lines. I have marked where you need to cut in the photo with my pencil. You are to cut 4 lines, 2 on each side. You are cutting into 2 folds, but NO FURTHER than the square in the middle. DO NOT cut pass the middle square!!! This is a BIG YIKES!!!!
| 8 So after making your cuts, you should see something like this - of course I have the cut sections kinda folded in, so don'w freak out... they are still attached!
| 9 Now to create our cover. With all the creases that you've created, the paper should be pretty much forming itself. What you need to do is take the sides that are still folded, and bring them in. Fold in the other 2 sides, to complete the cover. I may not have made any sense right now - so please refer to the photo for a better idea.
| 10 So this photo shows the 2 sides that were somewhat still folded in - then i just formed it to make a square. Now, with the 2 sides that are open - I'm going to "lock" in the edges that are cut within the folds of these 2 sides.
|
11 Is this making any sense?! I hope it is.... this is with 1 side done... now to do the other.
| 12 Ah! Finally! Did you get it?! This is your box cover. Now, place it on the side. Make sure the baby, dog or cat does not walk away with it - you don't want to go through that whole thing of making it again. Keep it safe!!!
| 13 Now going on to the base of your box. With the 4 cardstock, choose the cardstock that you would like to use as the "outside" of the box. Put that on the side (I chose the yellow cardstock - and placed it on the side).
| 14 Now, with your next cardstock, cut down to 11-3/4" x 11-3/4" - then score 4" and turn at 90 degress, then score 4" again, and go all the away around until you have a scored " + ". Then you are going to cut the 4 corners off - leaving you with a cut " + ".
| 15 The next cardstock, you will cut 1/4" less than the one before - so, the next will be 11-1/2" x 11-1/2", then 11-1/4" x 11-1/4", creating a layer effect for each cardstock. Do the same with the scoring and the cutting.
|
16 In the end, you will have 4 cut out and scored crosses, all layering on top of each other (don't forget to cut your base - you won't cut it down, but you would still score at 4" and cut out).
| 17 Now, starting with the base, (mines is yellow - as shown here), you're going to place mono adhesive to only the square portion of your cardstock.
| 18 Stick the next smaller cross right on top of your base, and do the same.
| 19 and the next.... and the next, untill all are adhered to each other.
| 20 You are going to end up with 16 perfectly cut 4" x 4" squares which you could use for layering your photos - or for another project. Regardless, DON'T THROW AWAY!!! Why make waste?!
