Over the past few weeks, the landscapers were here installing the french drain system around the house. We opted to install a french drain and preserve the existing grade as much as possible because in the front corner of the house, there was simply nowhere to go with the water - the driveway was already higher than the foundation, so there was no way to get another 6" down and still drain water away from the house. Plus the landscapers said that doing that much grading would probably kill or severely damage our trees.
Here you can see that all our landscaping is gone and they've dug a pit about a foot deep around the whole house.
