Tales of a Sparkle Slut.  That would be a great title for a book!  Instead, this is where you will see samples of wire crochet, lots of wire crochet.  Some is done in Sterling or Fine Silver, Artistic Wire or Copper Wire.  I use gemstone, crytal beads, glass or just really pretty beads.  Some glitter and some sparkle, lots sparkle, which has earned me my nickname Sparkle Slut.

Please feel free to leave comments, ask questions, send me email to ask questions I love talking about wire crochet. 2006 was the first year I didn't do a show.  The slow moving cancer has become a bit more active, so in deference to that, the decision was made to look in other directions for sales. I will always miss direct shows, the customer contact was wonderful.  I decided   teaching as well as putting together kits and patterns, could work. I have taught 2 classes at a local bead store and it was very successful.  Kits:  One will be In The Glenn, a much asked for neckpiece.  It is freeform, so it will be one of a kind, as it will be one of YOUR kind.  I'm tempted to not include a finished picture.

That can be discussed later, come in, make yourself to home, and snag some popcorn from the neverending bowl.  Yes, it is buttered.  I don't even want to hear about it...no calories, I promise

AMULET BAG ZEBRA
i did a wire crochet using beads that had been donated by friends, the bag is about 2.5"x2" and the strap is also wire crochet, with three beads that separate the scallops.  the scallops are made using the afghan stitch. and smushing them as you go.

donation to Zebra House

blue green quartz
i was really lucky to find several of this type of stone, on ebay, with varing shades of blue green.

they can be wrapped in gold as shown here (actually i have a bit of rose gold square wire for this one) or they would look lovely done in silver.

they will be presented on black cord.  the necklace of turquoise/gold wash on the beads as shown is mine!

I have become addicted to making clusters of grapes, in all colors.  These are great, with touches of frosty blue, i have clear ab, purple, silver/ab flash harvest gold, a beautiful czech gold that is a finish i thought was solid, but isn't.  in a bronze/copper.  loving harvest time

the safety pin is 14k gf wire twisted, and is also made by me, i also make and will be listed on ebay a 16ga sterling silver safety pin with one hole, or 3.

Sterling Silver Cornucopia  Lg. $25.
i love these horns, filled with czech beads of fruit and leafs.  it is made in the afghan stitch, then made into a horn, that hangs to be suspended on a chain, or on  sterling silver safety pin.

in craft wire they make wonderful placecard holders for Thanksgiving Dinner,  a takeaway everyone would remember.  these will be on ebay in siver as well as craft wire.
Going to also list  patterns on ebay. something new.  what do you think, feedback would be great.

contest piece2 $350.00
this is the second piece i sent in, the large oval is smoky topaz, then citrine oval then very pretty amethyst.

i crocheted around each stone to create a mounting, keeping it simple to highlight the stone.  the base necklace could be any chain, but i made a 1 1/2'' afghan stitch necklace.

i use afghan stitch so often as it gives a uniform almost loomed look to your work.  especially when you use beads.  besides, it's a fun stitch.

i lost out to a table top and a horse bridle...

this is a special order, made to order so allow one week, or longer if i have to special order the faceted or cab stones you want.  i will advise you at the time of order

paris 1921             not for sale
this is a favorite, the pre strung beads are from paris, vintage 1921, plastic and gilded squares.  i used 28ga fine silver and crocheted an amulet bag using the afghan stitch.  the rose detail matches the beads and is from the same era, and it dangles from the triangle flap over closure.

*******NEW*************************

I have found some beads that are very close to the size of the antique beads used in this bag, so I can make more, even the rose decoration blends well.  It can be made with or without the flap over.  I was thrilled to find these!

when made with new material, it will be $70.

out standing in his field   not mine anymore
a sharon peters cow is the center piece of this amulet bag, beaded and crocheted in the afghan stitch.  the tree is a fruit salad tree, with assorted fruit beads growing under the smile of the crocheted/beaded sun.

this was published and instructions in Step by Step Beads, Winter, 2004.

bo peep and her sheep   no longer mine
mavis smith special, a wonderful bo peep and her 4 lost sheep, all hiding from her, some in the fringe, one behind her, one or two on the strap.

the strap was made on a wooden spool and 4 nails, woven with pre strung beads every so often, the Artistic Wire tm in green is part of the design.  the body of the amulet bag is the afghan stitch with assorted green shaped and sized beads, blue flowers are scattered in the meadow.

this is a favorite of mine.

springtime           $265.
Made of Swarovski crystals in color change cantalope, changes from cool green to peachy, with a pink and peach studded in every so often and a band of silver up by the top.  It is suspended by a chain that is also crocheted with accent crystals.

should mention body of bag was made in afghan stitch, a type of crochet stitch carried on the hook.  If enough interest i will put a kit together, or a pattern.   the bottom is wider than the top.  the top curves up to center.

i'm also going to put it on ebay and my other album here, with prices.  but i do love it.

grape bag           not for sale but....
i fell in love with the focal bead, urn with grapes and leaves, the background amulet bag is no. 8 beads, a cream with faint purple lines marbled through bead.  the hanging grapes are tiny 2mm amethyst bead clusters i made i couldn't find grapes i liked, and these matched the grapes on the urn.  the leaf beads were the hardest, i actually changed these out for a more olive leaf.  trust me, it's nicer.

the grape vine plant is done in size 11 grey tone, it was soft enough look good with the tones, thou i have never seen a grey grape vine in napa, which is only 45 minutes from my house.

i have come up with a new variation of this bag which will be up soon, using the grapes i now love making.  will not have the urn.

Chosen Bridal Neckpiece    135.
special order
Up above at photo 5, you will see a bridal neckpiece, that was one of two submitted to a bride, that were special orders.  This is the piece that the bride chose for her wedding, and it looked lovely on her.  Made of silve wire with czech crystal beads, both drops and my favorite, faceted drums.

I was thrilled to get the piece back that I did, it was my favorite.

Bride Fair Lady
This is amazing, it is wonderful when just looked at, however when worn, everyone told me they thought of My Fair Lady, ending, with Liza Doolittle at the Ball.  No one was around to wear it when I was taking the picture, a Rhodesian Ridgeback Hound just does not do justice to jewelry, let me tell you.

tree of life 2003    donated item
this was made as a donation to a yearly program to beaders, a mystery package of pre selected color and styles of beads are sent to each member, they are to create anything, a piece of jewelry or an item using at least one of each bead, they may add one item.  the finished works are then auctioned off and funds donated to a cancer fund, in the name of a friend who lost her battle with cancer.

in the glenn      $160.
i had an image in my head of a woodland glenn with beautiful flowers and shades of green, and this is what came of it.  the base is an afghan stitch 3/4" necklace with a centerpiece of flowers in white, pink/lavender and purple and shades of green.  there is an asometric spray of green leaves that may have just held a fairy as she took wing....

flowers are czech glass /crystal / acrylic  leaf beads are glass

this one is SOLD!  each one is individual....orders taken

vintage look miser bag          $100.
the bag itself is worked in the afghan stitch using a size 7 hook, so it is a fairly thick small stitch.  the wire is 28gauge 14K gold fill wire  the beauty of the wire work shows thru as there is not a beaded surface here.

the dangle can be a wire wrapped crystal, cz, stone, favorite charm of your choice.

vintage beads in vintage look amulet   $160. bag
i love these beads. ebay purchase in the first months they were open, can you believe that?  1898 lampdrape was brass and fit over the top of a lampshade, it was very damaged and i could not save it, so i took it apart and saved the beads.  i was so happy with the results of this. i actually made one larger bag and have enough to make one more goodie, haven't figured out yet what it will be.  the color is actually a beige overall, the colors blend as the beads are not uniform in color, or size.  really pretty.

i again used the design of the miser bag, and had to make the top.

Zebra's Dance              donated
Well, people dance, and donate, and for good causes.  This necklace was donated to the Zebra Ball, held in February, Chicago,2007 for Carcinoid Cancer Research.

Zebra's are the horse of a different color.  When doctors can't find a diagnosis, they are to look for.... well you get the idea.

Made with Sterling Silver wire crocheted using Czech crystals in vibrant red ab, the colors dance as well as blink and sparkle.

I understand that the wife of a doctor who works with Carcinoid was the Lucky Bidder on this. I don't know what it went for,but I hope for a goodly amount.  I will be donating yearly for this very good cause.

Cleo Necklace~ front view      $200.
This is a really neat design, it can be worn with the solid band in front, and actually the center of the piece can also support a decoration, a cameo pin, a beautiful pearl enhanser, you have many choices.  This design was a featured project in Lapidary Journal Workshops, fall, 1997.

It is worked long ways, this one is 4 rows, it also looks great in 5 rows.

Thanks for sharing and mainly for the target of your work.

Hi Pat,
Thanks for visiting my blog.  What beautiful wire crochet designs you have created!  And, yes, I agree that there is so much work that goes into wire crochet.  But as you say, it is very addicting too!  I love the versatility it offers in creating unique pieces.

I love your bridal necklace.  Just gorgeous.

I'll be checking back to see what new treasures you'll be making.

Hi Pat
Thank you for commenting on our blog and for your encouragement. Sorry for the delay to approve your comment. It got caught by our antispam tool and we only saw it today.
I was very happy to meet another wire crotchetier. I came here to take a look at your albums and was quite impressed: you have gorgeous pieces! It's nice to have someone with the same interest. Maybe we can exchange some ideas and tips or even swap some pieces. Keep on the wonderful work.
