ADA: Airtight Drywall Approach Details: Drywall behind anything that intersects with outside air, tubs, stairs soffits etc. Here, we drywalled behind the sidewall of the tub. Since it is a sidewall, we ripped the studs down 1/2 inch prior to building the wall, and the air barrier(drywall) is internal in the wall. "framing inspector was OK with ripping the studs ? (obviously yes, but.....)" --rick, 12/18/05 "You did this before insulation, so is the wall behind this airtight drywall insulated prior to this stage?" --MaryS, 11/09/10 "Yes, Mary, It is insulated prior to covering with the 1st layer of drywall." --Rollie, 11/28/10 "Thanks, I thought it must be. I'm learning a lot from the photos here. Great info!" --MaryS, 11/29/10 | |
