John Early and Kevin Walker biked from the Waterfront Metro Station in Southwest Washington, DC, to Gambrills State Park north of Frederick, MD. After two nights camping and visits to Cunningham Falls and Thurmont, they biked back to DC.

Steve said, "We had such a good time on Memorial Day, I thought we should do it again." So, on Saturday, August 12, 2006, Steve led another joint OHBTC and PPTC bicycle ride to Cobb Island.
This 65-70 mile ride starts at Oak Ridge Park in Charles County, Maryland, goes to St. Ignatius Church at Chapel Point, past Pope's Creek to Cobb Island (lunch at a restaurant by the bridge), followed by an optional 5 mile tour of the island, and a return via Mt Victoria Rd and Amish farm country.

One of the 320 cyclists who rode in the 6th annual Patuxent River Rural Legacy Ride on June 11, 2005, said, “… This was my first Rural Legacy Ride and it was sensational.”

Kevin said his Accokeek to Pisgah Ride would go if the temperature were above freezing at ride start time. He postponed the ride start by an hour, to when the temperature was slightly above 32 degrees. With bright sunshine, very little wind, and good winter gear, we had a very pleasant ride.

Sam's first ride as a ride leader was a great success, with seventeen riders enjoying another beautiful autumn day.

Jack led his second club ride on the
Gallant Green Loop. It's a beautiful route, the weather on the first day of November was perfect, and everyone enjoyed a terrific ride.

Polly was joined by nine other members of OHBTC and several other cycling friends for her 30-mile Tour de Canal ride. She led the ride up the C&O Canal to Great Falls, back down MacArthur Blvd. to the Capital Crescent Trail, up the trail to Bethesda and back, and back to her house for a delicious lunch.

Ride Leader John Early with OHBTC Members Kevin Walker and Troy Ammons took the bus from Waldorf to Atlantic City. They rode their bikes on the Atlantic City boardwalk and continued down the Jersey Coast to Cape May, took the ferry across to Lewes, Delaware, and crossed the Delmarva Peninsular to Kent Island.

Cyclists converged on Deale for hand-dipped donuts at the Fractured Prune Donut Shop.

Three of us from the Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club and one guest went from Oxon Hill Farm to DC to see the cherry blossoms.

We were a few days early for the blossoms, but there were plenty of tourists. We enjoyed being four of the tourists.

The League of American Bicyclists' 2005 National Bike Summit ended with a bike ride through Washington.

Who said that February isn't a good month for cycling?
The Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club had rides every weekend in February.

Cyclists turned out for a rally to support a bike trail along the entire length of the ICC corridor.

The Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club appreciates the efforts of those members that lead rides and work at special club events. These volunteers were honored at the club's 2004 Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at the Mexico Restaurant in Waldorf, MD, on November 20.

Road Captain John Hutson presented ride leader jerseys to new ride leaders and ride leader vests to the other ride leaders. Bill Jones reported on status of the design of the new club jersey and solicited comments on proposed designs. Randy Schoch had several give-away items from Bob McMaster's supply of bike parts.

Special recognition was given to founding member Dorothy Hodges, who is moving in December to Nebraska. The club gave her a watercolor painting of her Oxon Hill home done by club artist Peter Ulrich.

These pictures describe a 4 week trip we made by bicycle and train through the Netherlands, Germany, Austria and Slovakia. 684 miles of bicycling and three train rides took us from Amsterdam to Heidelberg, Salzburg, and Bratislava.

Three hundred cyclists rode through Southern Maryland on September 12, 2004. More are expected on September 11, 2005, for this popular bicycle ride.

The 182 cyclists who rode the 5th annual Patuxent River Rural Legacy Ride on June 12, 2004 had a perfect day for cycling. One cyclist said, “… thank everyone at OHBTC for putting on such a successful ride. … Everyone was welcoming and helpful. … see y'all next year.”

Cyclists from the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) and other cyclists who use the bike path between the Anacostia Naval Air Station and the South Capitol Street Bridge cleaned up the path on Saturday, May 8. More than a dozen cyclists worked for over 4 hours cleaning the path in memory of David van Keuren. David was the historian at NRL and an avid bicyclist who rode this path on his daily commute to NRL. David was killed by a hit-and-run motorist on South Capitol Street March 26 as he was cycling to work.

Cyclists from the Oxon Hill Bicycle Club biked from Oxon Hill Farm to Freedom Plaza in Washington, DC to join over a thousand other cyclists for the 2004 Bike to Work Day Rally. The event is sponsored on the first Friday in May by the Washington Area Bicyclist Assocation (WABA).

Two-hundred cyclists rode back roads in Prince George's County between Cosca Park and the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary and enjoyed the rest stop on Molly Berry Road. The climb up Thrift Hill was a challenge, but everyone made it back ok.

The College Park Area Bicycle Coalition (CPABC) held the annual MARYLAND 500 Spring Ride on Sunday, April 25, 2004. This was the 16th (or maybe it was the 17th) time that Bill Kelly has led the MARYLAND 500 Spring Bike Tour of College Park. The tour leaves REI on Rhode Island Avenue in College Park and is a casual ride around College Park and the University of Maryland. The tour lets cyclists see bike lanes, trails, and other bike facilities that have resulted from the CPABC working with Town of College Park, U. of MD, SHA, DPWT, M-NCPPC, USDA BARC, IKEA, and many elected officials.

Ride Leader Mimi Newcastle was joined by Carole Holmes, Jan & Ron Tucker, Richard Harrington, Stan Hayes, John Clark, Lisa Brown, Kevin Colvin, Chris Norton and Bill Petersen on the first truly gorgeous day of the year. Near the end of ride, Jan suffered a puncture, but other than that all went well and a good time was had by all.

Steve invited friends from OHBTC and PPTC to join him on his 35 mile Rural Legacy Ride from Gwynn Park High School. We had a wonderful day with blue skies and almost no traffic. All enjoyed the rest stop at the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary and some of us enjoyed chili, sandwichs, and ice cream at the Brandywine Ice Cream Factory and Cafe after the ride. Best wishes to Steve for a speedy recovery from his surgery this Monday.

Maryland advocates for bicyclists and pedestrians came to the Lowe House of Delegates Office Building for a day of talking with legislators and each other.

Six members of the Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club were among the approximately 1,000 bicyclists at the Rural Ride Round the Islands in Charleston, SC.

Prince George's County Executive Jack Johnson went on a bike ride with about 40 members of the College Park Bicycle Coalition and local residents, political leaders, and cycling enthusiasts. The group rode nine miles on the trails and streets of Berwyn Heights and College Park. The County Executive said he is committed to promoting bicycling because of its benefits to health and the environment.

More than 80 cyclists took a moonlight ride for 15 miles around the monuments and historic buildings of Washington. The ride was sponsored by the Potomac Area Council of Hostelling International-USA (formerly American Youth Hostels)(www.potomachostels.org)).

More than 200 cyclists of all ages and abilities ignored the weather forecast for scattered thunderstorms and came out for a day of cycling in the sun.

More than 165 cyclists enjoyed the Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club's annual Southern Maryland May Metric on Saturday, May 3, 2003.

The College Park Area Bicycle Coalition (CPABC) held the annual MARYLAND 500 Spring Ride on Sunday, April 27, 2003. The 2004 MARYLAND 500 Spring Ride will be Sunday, April 25, 2004. The ride is in its 16th or 17th year. The ride leaves REI on Rhode Island Avenue in College Park at 9:00 am for a casual ride around College Park and the University of Maryland. The ride showcases bike lanes, trails, and other bike facilities that have resulted from the efforts of CPABC. The ride has a stop in downtown College Park for refreshments. Its a fun ride for the entire family.

Cyclists gave a "Thumbs Up" to the 28th annual Southern Maryland Century. This year's Indian Head 100 had 395 registered riders - a record turnout for a club event. The 2003 Indian Head 100 will be Sunday, September 7.

On the second Saturday every June, the Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club hosts the Patuxent River Rural Legacy Bicycle Ride.  This year's ride is June 14, 2003. For more info on the ride, visit ohbike.org.

"Great Ride!" is what many of the 260 cyclists said after finishing the Indian Head 100, the 27th annual Southern Maryland Century of the Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club.

135 cyclists, including 22 CAM Teens and their mentors, enjoyed rides of 26,40,or 63 miles. The ride earned over $600 for the CAM Teens of Prince George's County.
