Cobb Island Metric + (August 12, 2006)Steve said, "We had such a good time on Memorial Day, I thought we should do it again." So, on Saturday, August 12, 2006, Steve led another joint OHBTC and PPTC bicycle ride to Cobb Island.
This 65-70 mile ride starts at Oak Ridge Park in Charles County, Maryland, goes to St. Ignatius Church at Chapel Point, past Pope's Creek to Cobb Island (lunch at a restaurant by the bridge), followed by an optional 5 mile tour of the island, and a return via Mt Victoria Rd and Amish farm country.

A December Ride (December 10, 2005)Kevin said his Accokeek to Pisgah Ride would go if the temperature were above freezing at ride start time. He postponed the ride start by an hour, to when the temperature was slightly above 32 degrees. With bright sunshine, very little wind, and good winter gear, we had a very pleasant ride. |

2004 Volunteer Appreciation Dinner (November 20, 2004) The Oxon Hill Bicycle and Trail Club appreciates the efforts of those members that lead rides and work at special club events. These volunteers were honored at the club's 2004 Volunteer Appreciation Dinner at the Mexico Restaurant in Waldorf, MD, on November 20.
Road Captain John Hutson presented ride leader jerseys to new ride leaders and ride leader vests to the other ride leaders. Bill Jones reported on status of the design of the new club jersey and solicited comments on proposed designs. Randy Schoch had several give-away items from Bob McMaster's supply of bike parts.
Special recognition was given to founding member Dorothy Hodges, who is moving in December to Nebraska. The club gave her a watercolor painting of her Oxon Hill home done by club artist Peter Ulrich.

South Capitol Street Bike Path Cleanup (May 8, 2004)Cyclists from the Naval Research Laboratory (NRL) and other cyclists who use the bike path between the Anacostia Naval Air Station and the South Capitol Street Bridge cleaned up the path on Saturday, May 8. More than a dozen cyclists worked for over 4 hours cleaning the path in memory of David van Keuren. David was the historian at NRL and an avid bicyclist who rode this path on his daily commute to NRL. David was killed by a hit-and-run motorist on South Capitol Street March 26 as he was cycling to work. |

CPABC Spring Ride 2004 (April 25, 2004)The College Park Area Bicycle Coalition (CPABC) held the annual MARYLAND 500 Spring Ride on Sunday, April 25, 2004. This was the 16th (or maybe it was the 17th) time that Bill Kelly has led the MARYLAND 500 Spring Bike Tour of College Park. The tour leaves REI on Rhode Island Avenue in College Park and is a casual ride around College Park and the University of Maryland. The tour lets cyclists see bike lanes, trails, and other bike facilities that have resulted from the CPABC working with Town of College Park, U. of MD, SHA, DPWT, M-NCPPC, USDA BARC, IKEA, and many elected officials. |

Steve's Patuxent Legacy Ride (February 28, 2004)Steve invited friends from OHBTC and PPTC to join him on his 35 mile Rural Legacy Ride from Gwynn Park High School. We had a wonderful day with blue skies and almost no traffic. All enjoyed the rest stop at the Merkle Wildlife Sanctuary and some of us enjoyed chili, sandwichs, and ice cream at the Brandywine Ice Cream Factory and Cafe after the ride. Best wishes to Steve for a speedy recovery from his surgery this Monday. |
