The Gate Lodge was the smaller 5 bedroom house that was the home to some of the children and grandchildren away from "the big house".

Stan Hywet Manor House
This exquisite Tudor mansion was the private home of the Seiberling's and their family. Not just a huge mansion, but truly a home, filled with family, friends, art, music, and books. Above the entrance is a plaque engraved with the family motto "Non Nobis Solum" NOT FOR US ALONE. From the beginning, the Seiberling's were gracious hosts, and Stan Hywet meant to be shared. The Seiberling's were amazing, generous and kind people to their visitors and their staff. Their children and grandchildren adored them. (And Gertrude ruled the roost!)

Gertrude Seiberling's Wedding Dress
Is this not exquisite??? She was so tiny. Look at the workmanship. She married F.A. Seiberling in 1887. This is right at the beginning of the exhibit in the Music Room.

Gertrude Seiberling Wedding Portrait
She was a beautiful bride. These are the types of jewels Gertrude may have worn on her wedding day.
The necklace is an exquisite platinum, diamond and pearl "dog collar" lent by Lang Antiques in San Francisco. The magnificent pearl and diamond pendant and ring were lent by Lisa Stockhammer of the Three Graces who has gorgeous jewelry and a fabulous website (I've taken a course at Jewelry Camp given by Lisa)
This is the first case prominently displayed when you walk into the exhibit.

My Victorian Style Sterling Paste Floral Spray #19
This is my sterling paste floral brooch made in Germany done in Victorian style. If this were real Victorian, it probably would have been "en tremblant", a trembler, and if a real jewel, would have been silver topped gold set with diamonds.
The exquisite turquoise bracelet is authentic Victorian and set with diamonds in gold and the pin is real gold as well.

REAL Art Deco Jewelry
This is one of the most beautiful pieces I've ever seen. Platinum, diamonds and jadeite. Not mine sadly.
In an article write up of the exhibit, they posted the picture of this exquisite and thought it was "paste". No, the real thing!

Robin Deutsch in Front of the Art Deco Costume Case
All of the pieces in this case are mine. This jewelry is authentic to the period, and copies of the real jewelry that was made during this time. Some pieces are European, some American. Costume jewelry was not just for women who did not have money. Many women of wealth also owned and wore costume jewelry--especially for travel. I also read that during the Depression, when a lot of this jewelry was made (and before WWII) many women of wealth not only lost much of their money, but if they did not, felt it vulgar to display many of their real jewels when others were suffering, and many wore costume jewelry instead. This was the beginning of the "Golden Age" of costume jewelry. Many of the designers of these pieces (both American and European) made the jewelry exactly the same as their fine counterparts, and many of same jewelers who set real stones, would have set the paste stones in these. Due to the Depression, many fine jewelers lost their jobs, as well as many European jewelers fleein...

These are from my own case and this is the type of jewelry Gertrude might have owned and worn. Even though my pieces are costume, they are exact copies of fine jewelry. (I just love Gertrude...she's adorable but formidable). She would have been an older woman during this period in time, and not a "jazz age flapper", so we chose jewelry that would have been the appropriate style and type for her.

Robin Deutsch 1935 KTF/Trifari Sautoir
#16 in the previous case. This is a close-up of the extraordinary sautoir made by Trifari,Krussman & Fishel (KTF) in 1935 and designed by Alfred Philippe. In all of my years of collecting, this is only the 2nd one I have ever seen. This is one of the rarest pieces I own and a wonderful copy of Van Cleef & Arpels.

#21/18 Same Ciner ring as before with Martelli sterling cameo paste ring.
#12 Triple strand graduated faux pearl necklace with a faux emerald clasp and a stylized sterling paste bow with faux emeralds. The necklace was fixed and the emerald square cut clasp no longer shown as that is the way it would be worn-hidden.
#11 Faux pearl sterling and paste sautoir with asymmetrical pearl tassels.
The other faux pearl and paste earrings are unsigned.

Robin Deutsch 's Art Deco Jewels #3
The faux coral and paste set is early, unsigned KTF/Trifari and very rare. The bracelet is missing 4 of the coral balls. There are matching earrings and two small dress clips. This is early art deco. I bought this beautiful set from a dealer who used to sell jewelry to movie studios. She sent this out to be chosen for Charlize Theron to wear in the film "The Legend of
Bagger Vance" but they decided not to take it and she sold it...TO ME! Lucky Lucky.

Watches
There were many beautiful watches in this case. My Knoll & Pregizer (Germany)sterling and paste watch mimicking platinum and diamonds is to the left of that exquisite real watch with diamonds to the right. You would not know my watch is not real unless you were told. Incredible workmanship.

Robin Deutsch's Knoll & Pregizer Art Deco Watch #8
This is a close-up of my paste art deco watch. Very typical of the real diamond and platinum watches worn during the period, especially with the black double-corded strap. It's beautifully engraved with a design all around the perimeter of the watch case, black enamel hands, faux sapphire cabochon stem, and Arabic numerals. The missing paste was replaced when I sent this to Stan Hywet for display.
