enlarge 57KB, 640x432 66 Blanket after 2 fixes, remove gusset (too large), move and replace hood attachments (others too sharp and hard).
enlarge 73KB, 640x562 67 Move rear leg strap 'D's' to back corner where they should be. They were so high in the back that they gave the horse wedgies.
enlarge 60KB, 720x429 68 Harry's blankets go further forward, and the BOT is too high, and too far back, which makes it slide so that the tail cover ended up by his hocks. (All of his blankets I made are 145cm as is the BOT, the problem is the fit in the front.
enlarge 54KB, 640x500 69 Surcingle straps were so long that even when snugged up to the top, they were 8" below his belly.
I also move the front ones (near and off sides) back 3", and the back ones (near and off sides), forward 2", otherwise the front ones were against his elbows, and the back ones ended up getting peed on.
enlarge 69KB, 640x503 70 Amount of material cut from the surcingles.
enlarge 40KB, 720x335 71 Very shallow slope. Not a good fit for some horses. Harry is a TB X.
enlarge 53KB, 720x340 72 His blankets have more of an arc, and come up over his withers more, and even without a gusset, never ever bind in the shoulders.
enlarge 46KB, 720x313 73 Blanket I made in 1994 for Beanie, lengthened for Harry in front. Darts in shoulders gave better fit for them than gussets, and nothing to catch on.
enlarge 55KB, 720x404 74 One of Beanies blankets from 1994 that I made. I had to add on to the front to fit Harry. Beanie was a Belgian TBX and 16.3 1/2. Harry is a TBX and 16.2.

enlarge 49KB, 640x429 76 This view shows it better.
enlarge 52KB, 515x640 77 Reinserting a gusset which is not so wide. The original gusset always ended up in the front not over the shoulder muscles and top of arm.

enlarge 67KB, 617x640 81 Gusset inside stitched.
enlarge 73KB, 640x625 82 Trim on gusset completed.
enlarge 46KB, 640x404 83 Both gussets completed, except for bottom trim.
I also put a small dart just beyond the top part of the trim going straight up to the neck, creating more room for the shoulders as well. It was a turnover of 1" on the neck seam towards the withers. This allowed for a better fit.
enlarge 78KB, 640x621 84 Extra piece for withers, cut from the original gusset material that was way too wide.
enlarge 47KB, 720x328 85 1" tape stitched on top outside to cover open seam.
enlarge 44KB, 720x368 86 I used 2" moleskin which is very soft and flexible (I use 3" and 4" for standing wraps. These pieces are 30 years old. This is the inside of the blanket, covering the stitching so it is soft against their withers.
enlarge 86KB, 591x640 87 Trim on neck and bottom under gusset finished, and front closures fixed, and also moved the hook part of velcro to cover the trim. If it isn't moved to cover the trim on the front edge, the top corner is constantly getting turned over and it will pull on the trim all the time, eventually wearing it out.
