october 2007 Harry
| Photos by my friend Dr. Kim McGann of Harry and me playing around at work. It was Fall of 2004 when Valerie came to help us. We spent the first lesson at the walk trying not to fall down. In fact, we spent almost 16 months walking. The counted walk. It was 2 years before we could go out into the back field or a big field without him losing it - and trying to lose me. He still has his Harry Moments, or 'Harryisms' as Valerie and I have dubbed them, but they are not as fractious or frequent as they used to be. Since we live on a main highway that is travelled daily by giant farm equipment, and oversized loads carrying the sections of the 300' windmills every day, and 16 axle trailers and herds of motorcycles, he is totally bombproof. This is 3 years of consistent hard work for Valerie, Harry and me. It's a choice I made years ago when working with my horse partners. Okay, I'm somewhat obsessed but it's definitely worth the effort. Sometimes it just takes more time for some horses than others. It's a work in progress, and takes tremendous committment and patience. The rewards are so many - having a safe kind and wonderful horse that's like riding on a cloud. | Date(s): October 27, 2007.
