| 72 Dec 10th, horses in.
|
73 Beanie peeks out his new window!
| 74 Dec. 11th, got all the windows fixed, and more mats in even in the snow. Harry loves his view.
| 75 Beanie can't decide whether to eat or look out the window.
| 76 Inside barn Dec. 11th evening.
|
77 Both boys enjoying their new digs.
| 78 Sunday 12th Dec. horses out in separate pastures from now on.
| 79 Separate but equal. Both enjoying life much more, especially Beanie who doesn't have Harry pestering him and playing. Beanie fell down about an hour before this and so I realized that they needed to be apart.
| 80 evening of 12th.
|
81 Still need a front door. I tried getting the one off the front of the old barn, but it was too heavy.
| 82 Dec.15, morning. Beanie has finished his breakfast and is ready to go out!
| 83 Harry is so dark you can't see him, but he's ready also.
| 84 Finally the new door is on-thank you Jeff and Sharon for all the help!! We got lots done-gates and snaps and all the wood in the old barn moved to the front in case the old barn falls.
|
85 Dec 15, boys happy in their barn with the new front door off the old barn.
| 86 Closer view. Dec. 15th.
| 87 Dec. 15th, my truck and trailer are longer than the new barn. Ready to go to get shoes on tomorrow.
| 88 Morning of Dec. 20. The temps were below zero, and this is known locally as a vertical rainbow. It's crystals of frozen rain behind the sun which makes a vertical rainbow. This was at 8am facing East.
|
 89 Dec. 20th almost gone.
| 90
| 91 Beanie eating his hay with his full coat on. I added this door to the end of the barn to give him some shelter from the wind.
| 92 Harry doesn't have a shelter. In the Spring I'm planning on digging some post holes and adding a wind break at this corner for him as well.
|
93 Door I added at the front of the barn so when I come out in the morning at least I'm not blown across the field.
| 94 Inside of the barn facing South. I added a board just below the top of the door inside with an extra piece notched for the right side so that the snow won't blow straight in. I have to find something to put over the outside top.
| 95 In the eaves, I cut the CB-4 board from underneath the ceiling to fit in the open areas as the snow was blowing inside the stalls. I nailed the pieces on with the special foam board nails. I got both sides done.
| 96 I stuffed the eaves with empty shavings bags, and then stapled a tarp piece over the eaves because the hay was getting snow on it.
|
97 Beanie enjoying his hay. He is so happy, and sound, and gaining weight.
| 98 Harry has lunch
| 99 Beanie enjoys Christmas Lunch!
| 100 MMM--carrots baby apples beet pulp and nettles!! What a feast for a king
|
101 Too bad you can't see his ears twirl when he eats-it's so cute.
| 102 Harry is only able to just get carrots and some beet pulp-about 1/8 of a cup. It's never enough for him, but necessary.
| 103 Back of new barn showing the two end 'doors' we put on so that there is a wind break.
| 104 Breakfast inside Dec.29, - because of the ice and mist they spent most of the day inside with their windows opened. Harry loves watching the traffic. Beanie loves his hay.
|
105 Dec 29, back of old barn.
| 106 Dec. 30, very precarious...
| 107 Dec 30, back of old barn.getting ready to go.
| 108 Dec 31. 2004, 8:00 am, barn goes down just as I rounded the corner out of the new barn to dump the cart. The beam missed me by 5'.
|
109 First I ran in the house and threw the breaker for the new barn, because the wires are tied into a new box in the old barn at the bottom left hand side of open doorway.
| 110 Then I grabbed the camera. I was shaking so hard, I didn't think the photos would turn out. The noise was deafening-thank God or I wouldn't have survived.
| 111 Looking South from the North side of the barn on the bank. I told Beth yesterday about Earl's carpenter bench and said that the barn wouldn't last another day. Guess it didn't. Neither did the bench.
| 112 Just cannot believe the entire roof has collapsed. The horses were totally frantic. Thank God they were out of the barn, and in the field.
|
113 Harry watches. Beanie was behind the new barn. It took him 45 min to calm down and stop hyperventilating. I gave him a half bottle of Traumed after I brought them in the new barn. They were upset all day.
| 114 From the sun porch. My Farmall A tractor, all my carts, my mower, my aluminum canoe, steel doors, windows, t&g walnut and cherry flooring, baskets, tools, and buckets are still inside. I have to get all the stuff moved away from the front in order to get them all out. I also have to get an electrician to remove the overhead wires and the box so that I can get electric back in the barn. After that is done, some people will come in and get the beams, then the horses will have to go away for 3 days, and the fire dept will come in and burn it down. It's very scary still.
| 115 Jan 1, 2005-after HUGE winds last night, the barn is still holding on.
| 116 This wall won't last, especially with the winds we have here.
|
 117 Barn full o stuff-8am
| 118 Moved the boards first that were blocking the path to the pile.
| 119 South side of barn.
| 120 From the west back side of barn
|
121 This ladder went to the third floor loft in the center of the barn-South Side.
| 122
| 123 From the North Bank side looking South
| 124 From the house yard.

125 New barn and horses in pasture.
| 126 Beanie in pasture.
| 127 Harry and Beanie looking South West.
| 128 Harry and top floors in front of old barn.
|
129 Some of this I can move some I cannot because of the weight.
| 130 Looking North West, Beam
| 131 Stuff to be moved.
| 132 Myrtle and more stuff I pulled to the front 2 weeks ago.
|
 133 even more 'stuff'
| 134 Blanket racks, canoe, windows.
| 135 Thank goodness I removed the Oak 12 over 12 windows from the front and side of Beanie's stall.
| 136 View of beams.
|
137 Electric box just put in last March. Service for new barn. Now has to be removed to new barn.
| 138 Porch pile starting with Mt. Bike
| 139 Pile o stuff grows out in the driveway.
| 140 This is as far as I was able to drag the mower.
|
141 Myrtle is the only thing left inside. My 63 yr old Farmall-A. I was afraid that the vibration of starting it up would be dangerous.
| 142 Empty except for one piece of steel roofing.
| 143 Pile o stuff-heavy gates, buckets, tools, blankets, racks, chairs.
| 144 OMG!! Now go organize all this stuff!
|
145 Finally ended up putting my narrow 'jump'gates on either end of the front of the barn until Spring. The canoe I placed all the big rakes and tools I'm not using on some plastic and turned the canoe over up against the trees for the Winter.
| 146 All organized and piled up. With the winds we have I hope it stays until tomorrow when I can secure it better.
| 147 Stall doors, shelves, gates, trolly, racks-all organized for Winter.
| 148 Yea! A clean yard again-How happy am I!
|
149 Beanie leaves the barn with his new raincoat. Jan 12th, 2005

| 154 Harry in his lined rainsheet. He's going to get his matching wax one tomorrow.
| 155 The fire whistles are blowing!
| 156 All right that's over, I want my hay...
|
157 Finally the wires are off the old barn and I'm just waiting for this wall to fall.
| 158 Pascha guards the house and all the stuff from the barn.
| 159 Jan 13, Harry gets a chance to sneak some of Beanies hay while I clean his stall.
