1 horse statue under pine trees
| 2 back of house from barn
| 3 first area for temporary paddock. couldn't use, too many deep holes and concrete
| 4 just after stalls were finished and before horses got here.
|
5 snow drifts between barn and pasture. had to get a local guy with a giant tractor to come and plow a path to get out there. some drifts were 15' high and 20' across
| 6 Queen Kitty enjoying her new home-a kitty hole just outside Harry's stall.
| 7 patrick moore and his tractor plowing a way for me to be able to get to the pasture to put up 300' of wire fence.
| 8 pasture before new fence
|
 9 drifts drifts drifts!
| 10 artie having a nap
| 11 barn from deck of house with old door that had to be removed.
| 12 snow finally gone, and new fence up just before I went to get the horses. the landscape here is always like a dutch painting. beautiful.
|
13 'lake' from all the snow.
| 14 horses at home and nice weather-too nice for coats.
| 15 enjoying their new pasture.
| 16 in their new 'digs'. HUGE stalls.
|
 17
| 18 still unpacking, but getting there. no way to get up ramp to put hay upstairs so have to store downstairs for now.
| 19 snow again, coats again.....
| 20
|
21 wonderful housewarming gift from Jan Gaughan and Carol Spigner! A gardenia plant, my favorite.
| 22 finally in living room next to giant jade tree.
| 23 snow going a bit
| 24 new door. didn't realize that snow could get into the tinest places......
|
25 truck and trailer. so much mud that I have to unload on the road and back into the driveway. hopefully i'll have gravel soon.
| 26 redecorated front barn door with water repellant materials so the inside of the barn wouldn't get as much snow.
| 27 beanies Taj Mahal stall. I had to staple up supplex from the ceiling beam to the back of his stall because he was getting snow into his stall and on his back from the open doorway above. Another project.
| 28 blanket rack and back of barn
|
29 beanie in his new stall-no snow now
| 30 harry in his stall, all that mist is actually snow still flying in from outside. wind here is about 35mph plus all the time.
| 31 tues march 16th. what a snowfall this was. horses stayed inside all day.
| 32 drifts again, wed 17th, had to wade out to road to take out garbage.
|
33 drifts everywhere. lots of shoveling
| 34 of course I had to shovel out to the pasture. at least the snow was light. but it still took me 2 hours of constant shoveling.
| 35 for the driveway i used the Dodge method. driving back and forth until I could get through the drifts. I think for next year 2 things--SNOW FENCE, strategically placed, and SNOW BLOWER.
| 36 only area saved in front of the barn after the big snow.
|
37 4' drift inside the barn!
| 38 unreal, the wind and drifting snow.
| 39 forget wheeling the cart through this to dump the manure. This area was 3' deep in snow. had to wade pulling sled with muck tubs.
| 40 area I cleaned out on Tues during the big snow , while the horses were in all day. I finally have an area inside to ride. 20'x30', but if Nuno Olivera could train the Spanish Riding School horses in a 16' square, I should be able to at least work in this.......
|
41 another open area I have to close up with wood.
| 42 the 6' x 4' steel drag I moved from one end to the other and my big oak 3step mounting block. the drag must have weighed 400#'s.
| 43 after moving all the stuff, lumber, beams, canoe etc. and stuffing all the holes the snow still managed to sneak in.
| 44 all of this finally found a place to live temporarily. The lumber took most of the time to organize.
|
45 view from the 'arena' to the stalls. notice the lovely leaning posts-hahaha.
| 46 area from back of barn towards front door.
| 47 beanie finally out on the 17th after the big storm.
| 48 beanie loves his hay.
|
 49 view of 246 north
| 50 view of 246 south, notice the pine tree and which way the wind has come from.
| 51 Second beam from end away from the post by 3' and brace away.
| 52 showing center of barn on second floor, tongue and groove boards, showing beams. Shows dip in the center from posts shifting below.
|
53 Another view of 2nd bean from West side.
| 54 west end of barn from August 2003 storm.
| 55 from the east end of barn through the 'rooms' at mid section showing west end.
| 56 showing north side of barn at the ramp. Door on right permanently framed in and new framed in door on left with new people door.
|
57 Showing south side of large barn, east side of annex with small bldg. collapsing, Annex is holding up the large barn. New doorways framed and covered up and down towards junction of annex to large barn.
| 58 inside of barn below shows new stalls and mats at the east end. it is constantly wet in here everywhere.
| 59 shows west end downstairs with openings from upstairs.
| 60 Showing the north facing towards the west. Due to the beams down and coming away from the joins, the entire end is starting to fall away to the north. Taken from the ramp.
|
61 Showing the west side of the middle part rooms and 3rd story of the barn from the east side.
| 62 Showing tongue and groove construction. This is the entire mid section of the barn, 2nd floor, all sides, flooring, are t&g.
| 63 View of beam #3 showing the distance from the post and the results causing the sliding door not being able to slide. Originally this covered steps down to the lower part of the barn.
| 64 Another view of Beam #2 and the north facing wall leaning out.
|
 65 End beam down.
| 66 Framed doorway and window that were open have now been closed off preventing further damage to floors and walls. This is 20' from opening to half story of annex and 30' from west end of barn where damaged.

|
77 annex barn big barn from edge of wire fence
| 78 view of barns showing how large they are.
| 79 barn from the west side outside wire fence.
| 80 showing damage to the west side and piles of rocks and metal and wire.
|
81 showing paddock with yard in foreground and rest of pasture in background. (3/29/04)
| 82 pasture is so wet and muddy that Harry has lost both shoes. I keep finding barbed wire, bottles, stakes, metal and it's not safe. Plus there are large areas of standing putrid water there.
| 83 showing mud paddock with pasture beyond. area on right of photo that is brown is where the new fencing will go. There is nothing but large deep water holes and metal stakes sticking up. The new fence line will create a pasture that will drain and stay drier. Now everything settles to the right as that is where the snow ends up and it is swampy and dangerous.
| 84 showing close up of muddy paddock, some hoof prints are a foot deep and the mud is very sticky.
|
85 Pascha sits near Arties grave.
| 86 a foggy snowy day in March.
| 87 Tues. the barn flooded again.
| 88 water has seeped into the area between Beanie's stall and the hay pallets.
|
89 Harry's stall is the worst. Every morning I had to move the mats and dig. The under dirt was like topsoil. Spongy and wet.
| 90 Showing with mat removed, footprints in the dirt.
| 91 showing a beam under the dirt.
| 92 I was using 3 bales of shavings for each stall every day for 2 weeks.
|
93 Beanie's stall, water bubbling up all the time with no relief in sight.
| 94 stall mats would come away from the edge of the stall, and then start shifting.
| 95 Every morning this mat at the front of Harrys stall was moved and hoofprints went in 8" deep.
| 96 When weight was put on the mat, it was like standing on a rubber mattress, then the corners would pop up.
|
97 beam under dirt, buried in the floor.
| 98 gaps in stall floor.
| 99 more shifting.
| 100 out for the day, better than inside.
|
101 finally we have a dry day.
| 102 small paddock is getting pockmarked with hoofprints.
| 103 water line settling, but a mess to try to walk over.

| 120 cats enjoy marking their path.
|
121 Tues morning the barn is flooded.
| 122 more water, mats have to be removed.
| 123 especially in front of Beanie's stall, the water keeps coming in.
| 124 outside water pours off roof of barn, and rolls into the barn.
|
125 fog fog fog- all day
| 126 rampo to top floor of barn. water comes off roof on this side and slides right into the 8" gap between the ramp and the barn, going right under the stalls.
| 127 I start to dig a trench.
| 128 I dig and dig, all day.
|
129 I keep digging outside but the outside is higher than the inside.
| 130 trench outside side of barn.
| 131 water comes in as fast as I can dig a trench.
| 132 Chloe at the water jump.
|
133 water from upstairs. Roof has lost so many shingles on both sides, and with the end of the barn gone, when it rains, it ends up downstairs.
| 134 stones laid down after tile is put in.
| 135 mats have to be reset.
| 136 showing tile outside.

| 150 Can we please go someplace else for grass?
| 151
| 152
|
 153 a determined walk.
| 154 okay, we're taking a break.
| 155 Do Not Disturb! We're sleeping.
| 156 Just hanging out in the sun
|
 157 Flies are out.
| 158 from the side of the barn.
