1 I always wanted to try carving a tiki head. Since I don't really have adequate workspace to do this, I grabbed a piece of pressure treated scrap wood to do a modern-day attempt. I sketched out my design on the piece and began whittling away using all sorts of power tools.
| 2 My trusty Dremel was my first choice, but that would take forever. I tried a 4" power angle grinder. That left ugly burn marks on the wood.
| 3 I tried all different sorts of power tools, and began getting the basic shape established.
| 4 Switching between power and hand tools, I began to get the hang of how I could tackle the job.
|
5 I got hold of some shaping wheels that would be perfect to use in my drill press. Since my father refuses to throw garbage away, there is no place for me to set up my drill press.
| 6 I have to resort to doing it the slow, tedious way, until I either win the lottery, or my father passes away. I'm hoping for the first choice.
| 7 I want to round off the lips, so I plan on carving the features fairly deep into the surface, meaning that I have a lot to get rid of. I may be working on this for a longggggg time.
