1 The newspaper I grew up with is The Long Island Newsday. It has gone through lots of changes in my time. In my opinion most are not for the better, but they do hold a heck of a good car show. This one was scheduled for May 11th, but was postponed due to torrential downpours, so on May 18th this is what I saw. The majority of people who attend car shows are "motorheads" and there are as many Kool Kars in the parking lot as there are on display. This is a 1976 Steyr Suburban.
| 2 Asd I've mentioned in earlier posts, taking photographs is a difficult job, because many people will step in front of you to examine the car and stay there for minutes on end. The angles you can photograph from are limited and you cannot choose the background. With that in mind, here's a '34 Ford.
| 3 Here's a bullet nosed '51 Studebaker.
| 4 I made a note to jot down the year of the vehicle and this is listed as a '78 Ford. I don't think Henry was making the bucket T in '78, so I'm gonna go out on a limb and guess that thsi is a kit car.
|
5 It's got a healthy powerplant.
| 6 This is a kit for a Volkswagen Beetle.
| 7 Here's the go-power. These things had some oomph, plus they were light and economical.
| 8 This is a '55 Chevy. Check out the low profile lights in the lower grille.
|
9 This is more my fglavor, a '34 Ford that's not stock. There were a plethora of muscle and antique cars at the show, but I'm not into keeping things stock, so I didn't bother to shoot more Mustangs, Camaros, GTOs or BelAirs. We've seen them before.
| 10 This is what moves the Ford.
| 11 Here's a unique one, a '41 dodge.
| 12 This WAS a '76 Caddy four door and the guy just whacked off the rear and stuffed it together as a two-door convertible. I must say that he gets points for effort but the fit & finish are crude to say the least. Panels don't align or flow smothly together, yet he drives it everywhere.
|
13 This is a '69 plymouth GTX. I'm not sure what the distinction between the GTX and The Roadrunner was, but this is Kool!
| 14 Here's what moves the Mopar.
| 15 Here's a '30 Ford. Early Hot Rods were almost always Fords, mostly because they could be gotten inexpensively due to the number of them that were around.
| 16 A nice '31 Ford pickup.
|
17 This is an Auburn repro. On the registration it was listed as a'78. What the guts are is anyone's guess.
| 18 This is American Motor's answer to the Mustang, and Barracuda, the '65 Rambler Marlin. I wish I could've gotten a better shot of the fastback.
| 19 This is a '52 Olds.
| 20 Bucket T's are one of my favorite hot rod styles. This is a '23 Ford.
|
21 Here's some nice pinstriping on a first gen. Mustang.
| 22 To say that thsi '69 Camaro is blown is a gross understatement.
| 23 This military vehicle is from The Long Island Airpower Museum.
| 24 Fire when ready!
