1 I believe this is a '46 Ford. In many cases I take photos of everything I see. I've decided to be a bit more discriminatory, to avoid the typical car show photos. So far I'm not sticking to that thought process. This is a nice car, but it certainly isn't something that I'd choose to own or modify.
| 2 This Mercury has some nice pinstriping on it. Pinstriping is something I've admired, but never put any effort into doing. Now that I'm without a place to practice such a skill, I find myself regretting all the time I let go by without putting in the effort to master.
| 3 Here's a better look.
| 4 I'm not so crazy about the scroll work on the side, but the camera didn't pick it up very well anyway.
|
5 The work on the front and rear are very traditional, yet tasteful.
| 6 This is an early Impala. named after an African antelope. I'd imagine it's because those beasts are pretty fast.
| 7 In the early '60's they didn't come with a 502 cubic inch engine!
| 8 The interior also reflects the usage of modern style and technology.
|
9 In days gone by, chrome was the style touch that every manufacturer used to dress-up their models. Not so much anymore.
| 10 This is a Chevy COE truck,(cab Over Engine) The paintwork on this is outstanding.
| 11 I'm not so sure how practical the bed is. It seems dwarfed by the cabin.
| 12 Here's another similar model. At first I thought the bed's came from another vehicle, but these two share too much to be non-factory modifications...or are they?
|
13 I don't know, and since I didn't get to speak to their owners, I'll never know. You can see the difference in the grilles, yet the beds appear identical, so maybe the builder just hit upon a formula that he liked, and stuck with it.
| 14 At first I was taken by the hood scoops on this early sixties Dodge, but on closer inspection, they look like they were put on with double-stick tape.
| 15 The look is cool, especially for a station wagon. I'd prefer to see some custom metal work over some glued-on hood scoops.
| 16 It is cloudy and overcast, which sometimes is a photographer's dream. In this case not so much. Many details are hidden by the conditions.
|
17 Normally I'd be working since today is The Belmont Stakes. But I'm a car nut, I've seen enough horse races for my lifetime, so I'd rather be checking out custom cars. This truck has some nice pinstripe work on it.
| 18 Here's the BIG picture.
| 19 It's amazing that so many of the early vehicles had such spartan interiors. It's also cool to see how people improve on what Detroit rolled out.
| 20 Engines this size weren't standard equipment on this model.
|
21 Nor this one.
| 22 A supercharger was the way to boost horsepower in the days when gas was under fifty cents a gallon.
| 23 Cup holders weren't an option in any car. The best they had was a little circular indentation on the inside of the glove compartment door. That wasn't intended for use while the vehicle was in motion.
| 24 A lowered roof line and a "bug catcher" scoop is a look that never grows old.
