History of the Rat Terrier (October 9, 2006)The Rat Terrier is an American breed descended from the terriers brought over by English miners and other working class immigrants. These terriers probably included crosses between the Smooth Fox Terrier, the Manchester Terrier and the now extinct white English Terrier. These dogs were used as ratters, and gambling on their prowess in killing rats was a favorite hobby of their owners. Some of these dogs were crossed with Whippets or Italian Greyhounds (for speed) and Beagles (for hunting ability). Eventually, these tough little terriers evolved into today’s Rat Terrier. The breed was popularized by President Teddy Roosevelt, who frequently hunted with his Rat Terriers. Many are still used as ratters and squirrel hunters, particularly in the South, where they are sometimes known as “Feists.”
The Rat Terrier was recognized by the United Kennel Club on January 1, 1999.
All information found on the UKC website.

CH. Desert High's There's A Reason (January 21, 2006)This is CH. Desert High's There's A Reason, aka Z. He is our stud dog, and he is very special. First of all, thank you to Debbie and Gary of Desert High's Rat Terriers for trusting us with Z. He's been a blessing to us. Z stands 14" high, and weighs in at 17lbs. His temperament is perfect - he is always sweet, loving, and attentive. His conformation is near perfect. We are thrilled to have him, and completely in love with him too!
Sire: UKC CH. RPK's Desert High Sandstorm
Dam: UKC GRCH. BCR's Annabelles Wish of DH
He's a CHAMPION now!!! In just three weekends of shows, Tulare on February 18 and 19, Modesto on March 18 and 19, and the Sparks show on April 22 and 23, Z showed what he was truly made of. Z earned his Championship with the UKC on April 23, 2006. I'm so proud of my boy! |

Crystal Creeks Precious Gem of MK (January 21, 2006)This beautiful girl came to us from Crystal Creek Rat Terriers in Georgia. Thank you Julie for blessing us with this sweet baby. Gemma is a total joy. She is intelligent (no accidents in the house), and loving (puppy kisses any time you want). She is a doll baby, and gorgeous to boot. Pictures do not do her justice! She adjusted to our household with extreme ease. No problems sleeping in her crate at night, no problems befriending the other dogs. Julie, you have done a fantastic job with this little girl. I've never had an easier transition with any dog. Thank you again for Gemma!
Sire: Desert High's Eye of the Storm

Past Puppers (January 21, 2006) Gemma's Little JOYS arrived in full color on November 25, 2006. What a thrill to see what this new cross between Crystal Creeks Precious Gem of MK and CH. Desert High's There's A Reason would bring us. The tan sable and the rare blue tri were new colors for us that we so enjoyed.
August 9th, 2006 brought us our second litter by CH. Desert High's There's A Reason, and RPK's Ginger Snap. This time she had NINE! That's right, nine. We named this litter the Pringles because once Mama popped, she couldn't stop!
On December 22, 2005 we had our first litter by Z and Ginger. She had six beautiful, perfect babies. 4 boys, and 2 girls. All black tri or black bi. |
